Licensed Practical Nurse (35 Hour) (Office/On-site)

Position Overview Licensed Practical Nurse – Second Shift Location: Southbury Training School, Connecticut, West Region. Schedule: Friday – Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.; Days off: Wednesday & Thursday. Responsibilities Assist doctors and nurses with general care and treatment of individuals. Measure and administer medications, including insulin injections, intravenous medications, and topical medications. Document medication administration and other care activities using appropriate forms. Perform narcotic counts and maintain accurate medication records. Report changes in individuals to doctors and maintain communication of patient conditions. Apply and monitor restraints correctly. Transcribe medication orders and dispense certain medications in the doctor’s absence. Take and chart vital signs: temperature, pulse, respiration. Perform simple nursing treatments and monitor general individual needs, including personal hygiene. Administer enemas or suppositories and perform Foley catheterization care. Orients individuals concerning medications and their use. May provide emergency first aid. May drive individuals to necessary appointments or outings. Perform related duties as required. Qualifications Minimum qualifications : License or temporary permit to practice nursing in Connecticut by the State Board of Examiners for Nursing, or a valid Multistate or Compact Licensed Practical Nurse license. Valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s license; Public Passenger Endorsement or Commercial Driver’s license may be required for designated positions. Ability to obtain Medical Administration Certification from the Department of Developmental Services. Preferred Qualifications IV certification. Experience with feeding tubes, tracheostomy care, oxygen therapy, and wound care including wound vac treatments. Experience administering medications and treatments at a large volume. Working Conditions Incumbents may be required to lift/restrain individuals, travel, work nights and weekends, and may be exposed to communicable diseases or to some risk of injury from assaultive or abusive individuals.
