Senior Product Manager
Debtbook
Senior Product Manager
Charlotte NC
Who We Are
DebtBook is the financial platform powering treasury and capital markets across the public sector. State and local governments, public universities, health systems, and the bankers and advisors who serve them run trillions of dollars in debt, cash, and investments on DebtBook.
We've built the most sophisticated treasury platform in public finance — sitting at the intersection of treasury management and a $4 trillion fixed income market that's been waiting for modern infrastructure.
About This Role
DebtBook's Product team is responsible for designing and developing easy-to-use products that enable finance teams around the country to effectively manage their debt, cash, and investments.
We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to own the Cash & Payments domain: bank connectivity, transaction data, cash positioning and forecasting, reconciliation, and the payment workflows that sit on top of them. This is the fastest-moving part of our platform and the part with the most external dependencies — bank file formats, aggregators, direct bank integrations, payment rails, and the operational reality of a treasurer who needs an accurate cash position before 10am.
You will own strategy and execution for your area, not a backlog handed to you. You will define the roadmap, make the build/buy/partner calls on integrations, run early adopter programs with real customers and real bank data, and be accountable for adoption and revenue outcomes alongside GTM. You will work directly with engineering leads, design, Customer Success, Sales, and the executive team, and you will mentor Associate PMs and PMs in the domain.
You should want to become one of the most knowledgeable people in the country on how public sector treasury cash actually moves.
What You'll Do
As a Senior Product Manager you will:
- Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Cash & Payments, and defend the sequencing with evidence: customer discovery, usage data, win/loss, competitive position, and revenue impact
- Own bank connectivity end to end — aggregators, direct bank feeds, and file-based ingestion (BAI2, CSV, ISO 20022) — including the tradeoffs between coverage, latency, data quality, and cost
- Define and ship reconciliation and cash positioning capability: matching bank transactions against projected cash activity, exception handling, confidence signaling, and the workflows a treasury analyst uses every morning
- Own payment workflows and the controls around them: approval chains, segregation of duties, fraud controls (positive pay, payee positive pay), audit trail, and the compliance posture our customers' auditors will ask about
- Write clear PRDs with explicit scope, non-goals, phasing, and acceptance criteria; be the single source of truth on what "done" means for your area
- Partner with Engineering leadership on architecture-level decisions that affect product outcomes — data model, ingestion pipeline, latency and reliability targets, and where to absorb complexity so customers don't have to
- Run early adopter programs: recruit customers, set entry and exit criteria, instrument the program, hold the gates, and make the honest call when evidence says slow down
- Own migration and sunset paths when we replace incumbent capability, including customer commitments, timelines, and the risk register behind them
- Define positioning, packaging, and pricing inputs for your domain with GTM, and equip Sales and CS with the narrative, proof, and objection handling they need to sell it
- Set and report on domain-level metrics — activation, match rate, time-to-position, exception volume, feed reliability — and be accountable for moving them
- Be the executive-facing owner of your area: crisp status, real risk, no surprises
- Mentor Associate PMs and PMs, and raise the bar on discovery quality, written clarity, and testing rigor across the domain
- Represent DebtBook credibly in front of customers, prospects, banks, and partners, including at conferences and on advisory calls
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years in product management, with meaningful time on data-intensive or integration-heavy B2B products; you have shipped something that depended on somebody else's file format and made it work
- Demonstrated ownership of a product area with revenue or adoption accountability, not just feature delivery
- Fluency with financial data: you can open a bank file, a cash forecast, and a transaction export, find where they disagree, and explain why
- Strong technical judgment; you can hold your own with engineers on API design, data pipelines, idempotency, and failure modes without being the engineer
- Exceptional written communication; your PRDs get read and your status updates are trusted
- Comfort making decisions with incomplete information, stating assumptions, and revising publicly when the evidence changes
- Direct customer exposure as a habit, not an event; you run your own discovery calls
- Experience using AI tools in a real analytical or product workflow
- Comfort in a fast-moving environment; able to operate effectively through periods of uncertainty, ambiguity, and change
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in treasury, banking, payments, or public finance — TMS/ERP, bank portals, cash forecasting, bank data integration, or payment operations
- Hands-on familiarity with bank file formats and connectivity (BAI2, ISO 20022, SFTP polling, aggregator APIs)
- Experience with payment rails and their operational realities (ACH, wires, RTP, check/positive pay)
- Experience with reconciliation or matching products, including deterministic and probabilistic matching and how to expose confidence to users
- Experience selling into or building for the public sector (cities, counties, school districts, utilities, transit authorities, public universities, health systems)
- SQL fluency; you pull your own data
- Familiarity with accounting standards
- Experience running early adopter, design partner, or beta programs
- Experience with GitLab, Jira, or comparable tooling at scale

- We are energized by the fast-paced rate of change that growth demands and see new challenges as opportunities for resilience and personal development.
- We are driven by curiosity to think creatively, innovate, and experiment, and we humbly incorporate lessons learned from success and failure along the journey.
Own Your Outcomes
- We hold ourselves accountable for exceptional effort, execution, reliability, professionalism, and results that add tremendous value for customers.

- We run towards problems and enthusiastically jump in to help colleagues however we can be valuable.

Team Over Ego
- There is no task needed at DebtBook that is beneath any of us.
- We work hard to be the teammate others want on their team.
- We have the courage to have hard conversations and the grace to receive honest feedback in pursuit of excellence.
