AGENCY BACKGROUND:
MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures, and develop their full potential.
PROGRAM BACKGROUND:Admission to our specialized programs are determined by Family Court recommendations where children are placed in the most appropriate, least restrictive setting. MercyFirst has residential treatment settings for these children and plan for their successful discharge from the moment they are admitted to our programs. While with us, the children, adolescents, attend school on our Syosset campus, receive medical and clinical services. The children and their families work with a multi-disciplinary team to prepare for discharge and to ensure a smooth transition.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:The Case Aide should embrace diversity and have an open mind when working with the families we serve. This employee will have to document all contacts in appropriate computer systems within established time limits. They will assist the Caseworker and Aftercare Worker with all assigned tasks for clients and families. This can include: regular contacts with the clients and families; conducting thorough home assessments as needed; documenting all communication in the electronic case record; preparing psychosocial assessments of youth, including genograms, etc. Must be able to communicate well with parents and everyone involved in the youth’s life: medical, schools, lawyers and more. Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner and with accurate documentation is essential.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma and related work in social work field.
- Minimum six (6) months of office and/or casework experience.
- Must maintain a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills including the ability to de-escalate conflicting communication.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct home visits with birth parents, foster parents, and/or resource persons in accordance with mandates.
- Document all contacts in appropriate computer systems within established time limits.
- Monitor and document each home visit, family/sibling visits
- Answer and direct phone calls appropriately.
- Respond to Client requests for information.
- Maintain timely data entry into multiple computer systems.
- Maintain tracking systems of reports coming due and completed.
- Be able to communicate with lawyers, doctors, school personnel and anyone involved with the family.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries.
- Follow all MercyFirst’ s established policies and procedures.
- Understanding and willingness to commit to the Agency’s Mission, core values, Sanctuary commitments, and DEIB principles.

Salary Range:
$44,000-$47,000
Hiring Incentive-$1,000 after 500 worked hours
