Dean, Luskin School of Public Affairs

The client invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Dean. As the chief executive and academic officer, the dean provides strategic vision and operational leadership for the school, advancing scholarship, education, and civic engagement. The role includes encouraging programmatic innovation, enhancing inclusive excellence in educational programs and in faculty and student recruitment, and linking faculty and student work to other disciplines and communities within and beyond academia. The dean supports the university’s research mission by advancing faculty scholarly activities, including opportunities enabled through interdisciplinary approaches. The dean serves as the school’s public voice, articulating contributions to local, state, regional, national, and international communities, and pursuing an ambitious development program to build the school’s resources. The dean collaborates with leadership across the wider institution and the broader UC system, serves on relevant councils of academic leadership, and partners with leaders locally, nationally, and internationally. The client seeks an innovative and visionary leader with nationally and/or internationally recognized scholarly and/or professional achievement, along with substantial administrative leadership experience. The position requires a record of distinguished intellectual leadership and scholarly accomplishment, significant organizational leadership and administrative responsibility, and deep engagement in addressing social and economic issues across diverse settings. The dean should also demonstrate success in external relations and fundraising, an established record of advancing inclusive excellence, and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of full professor; confidential review is expected to begin immediately and continue until an appointment is made.
