Job Title: CNC Mill Machinist – 3-Axis Mill Turn (Fanuc Controls)

Job Description

This role is ideal for an experienced CNC Mill Machinist who thrives in a smaller, fast-paced machine shop environment and can work independently with minimal training. You will set up and run 3-axis mill turn lathes using Fanuc controls, interpret complex blueprints, and perform precise measurements to ensure high-quality parts for aerospace and other major customers.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 3-axis CNC mill turn lathes with live milling tooling and twin spindle configurations.
• Independently perform complete machine set-ups, including tooling, offsets, and program selection, without ongoing supervision.
• Run production parts efficiently and accurately, maintaining tight tolerances and consistent quality.
• Read and interpret detailed blueprints and engineering drawings to determine machining requirements.
• Use height gauges, calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring tools to inspect parts and verify dimensions.
• Work directly at the machine with Fanuc controls, including calling, editing, and adjusting programs using G codes and M codes.
• Operate within a two-machine cell, managing workflow, prioritizing jobs, and ensuring both machines run effectively.
• Perform basic troubleshooting on machines, tooling, and programs to resolve issues and minimize downtime.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and care for both company equipment and personal tools.
• Collaborate with team members in a family-oriented, team-focused environment, assisting others when needed and being willing to do more than just assigned tasks.
• Follow all shop safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and adherence to machine operating guidelines.
• Support occasional overtime needs, including early start times and Saturday work, to meet production demands.

Essential Skills

• At least 2+ years of experience as a CNC Mill Machinist in a production or job shop environment.
• Strong in mill turn operations, specifically on mill turn lathes with live tooling.
• Hands-on experience with 3-axis CNC mills and 3-axis mill turn machines.
• Proficiency with Fanuc controls, including operating, adjusting, and working directly at the machine interface.
• Ability to perform complete CNC set-ups independently, including tooling, offsets, and program changes.
• Solid understanding and practical use of G codes and M codes in CNC programming and operation.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
• Proficient use of precision measuring instruments such as height gauges, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and edge finders.
• Capability to hit the ground running with minimal training and direction in a busy shop environment.
• Reliable work habits, strong attention to detail, and commitment to producing high-quality parts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Haas, Kia, and Doosan CNC equipment.
• Working in a smaller machine shop environment with a two-machine cell setup.
• Familiarity with machining for aerospace or other major industrial customers.
• Ability to provide and maintain your own essential tools, including 6" calipers, 0–1" micrometer, dial indicator, edge finder, wrenches, dead blow hammer, and Allen wrenches.
• Comfort working with 7–9 axis mill turn configurations and live milling tooling.
• Strong team mentality and willingness to help coworkers beyond core job duties.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a close-knit shop setting.

Work Environment

This role is based in a smaller machine shop with approximately 50 employees, offering a close-knit, family-style culture where teamwork and getting along with others are essential. The facility is climate-controlled, providing a comfortable work setting throughout the year. You will work primarily on 3-axis mill turn lathes equipped with Fanuc controls, live milling tooling, and twin spindles, within a two-machine cell. The shop utilizes equipment from brands such as Haas, Kia, and Doosan, along with standard precision measuring instruments and typical machinist tools. The position is on first shift, with core hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and opportunities for overtime through early start times and Saturday work from 7:00 a.m. to noon. Dress code is casual and practical for a shop environment, consisting of jeans, a T-shirt, and steel-toed shoes.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
