Job Description

Day to day, the Bilingual Programs Manager guides a portfolio of programs from planning through delivery and refinement, supervises both staff and volunteers, tracks results, and looks for new avenues to reach people, online ones included. The role exists to steer the frontline services that touch the community, and it sits at the center of three areas: an 800 Helpline, programming aimed at individuals and families, and community education.

Much of this programming happens in both Spanish and English, which is why our client is looking for a bilingual professional. The position reports into the Executive Director and works alongside the board's Program Committee to define and execute the year's plan for programs and services.

Behind the role is a respected, mission-focused nonprofit serving individuals and families across the greater Los Angeles region. It runs as a small, closely connected team where everyone contributes directly to the support the organization provides.

Lead patient and family education

  • Provide individual education and advocacy, hold sessions tailored to the newly diagnosed, and invite speakers to address self-advocacy.
  • Develop fresh partnerships while nurturing established ones so that people stay informed about the newest information and treatments.
  • Collaborate with centers and community organizations to bring educational programming to the region, giving particular attention to underserved areas.

Manage supportive care programs

  • Hold every program to the organization's standards, including those that other staff help run.
  • Map out, carry out, and review programs spanning social, recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities.
  • These may take the form of Family Weekend Camp, Family Days and social outings, Summer Camp, Adult Social and Retreat events, art therapy sessions, Kids Crew events, and monthly support groups.

Run the 800 Helpline (information and referral)

  • Take charge of the Emergency Assistance Program along with the Safety Resource Program (pillboxes and ID bracelets).
  • Set the direction for the Helpline and put clear protocols in place so that callers region-wide get help that is quick and genuinely useful.
  • Keep close contact with the national office, which administers the shared database and referral protocols, so information, quality standards, and ideas circulate in both directions.
  • Guide the staff who answer incoming calls, carry out intake, gauge needs, and pass along information by phone, email, and mail.
  • Join forces with the Spanish Program Specialist to ensure materials stay current and appropriate for a varied community.
  • Point callers toward programs and community services, and where it is possible, provide case management and follow-up.

Support the wider team and mission

  • Lend support across awareness, advocacy, and signature events, as these areas frequently intersect.
  • Represent the organization out in the community and participate in the bulk of its activities.
  • Partner with the Development team on grant applications and reporting, and help keep donor relationships strong.
  • Step in to help the Executive Director oversee other program staff.
  • Offer programs in virtual formats and make sure resources remain easy to find online.

Lead community education

  • Arrange and run First Aid trainings at schools and organizations.
  • Widen the program's reach by bringing on, preparing, and overseeing parents, advocates, and professionals so they can deliver education on their own.
  • Manage the Brain Exhibit, which introduces students to brain health and seizure first aid.
RequirementsEssential
  • Comfortable engaging with people of all kinds, including clients across a spectrum of abilities and backgrounds.
  • Fluent in both Spanish and English, written as well as spoken.
  • Holds a bachelor's degree and brings at least 5 years of program development and management experience.
  • Capable of leading mixed teams made up of staff, community organizations, and corporate partners.
  • Carries a valid driver's license and has reliable transportation for routine travel around the region.
  • Sharp attention to detail paired with the ability to keep several projects moving on separate timelines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and experienced in working with databases.
  • First-rate communication in writing, in conversation, and between people.
  • Prepared to put in the occasional evening or weekend and to take the rare trip elsewhere in the U.S.
  • Able to carry the organization's name in a professional and ethical manner.
Preferred
  • Familiar with the organization's mission and able to speak to it convincingly.
  • Prior experience supporting people and families.
  • On-the-job training is provided.

Reports to: Executive Director

Travel: Regular regional travel. Business mileage reimbursed at the standard rate
