The IT Hardware Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of physical computer systems and networking equipment. They act as the primary point of contact for technical hardware issues, ensuring that an organization’s technology infrastructure remains operational and efficient.

Core Responsibilities

• Hardware Installation & Configuration : Setting up workstations, laptops, servers, and peripheral devices like printers and scanners.
• Maintenance & Upgrades : Performing routine checks, cleaning components, and upgrading hardware (e.g., adding RAM or replacing hard drives) to ensure optimal performance.
• Troubleshooting & Repair : Diagnosing hardware failures and resolving issues such as connectivity problems, overheating, or physical damage to components like motherboards and CPUs.
• Inventory Management : Maintaining accurate records of all hardware assets, tracking warranties, and managing spare parts and supplies.
• Technical Support & Training : Providing in-person, phone, or remote assistance to users and educating staff on proper equipment usage.
• Documentation : Logging all service activities, documenting repair processes, and maintaining network configuration maps.

Key Skills & Qualifications

• Technical Proficiency : Deep knowledge of computer architecture, operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), and networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
• Problem-Solving : Strong analytical skills to pinpoint hardware malfunctions and develop long-term solutions.
• Physical Ability : Often requires the ability to lift equipment (up to 50 lbs), climb ladders, and perform manual tasks like pulling cables.
• Soft Skills : Excellent communication, patience, and customer service skills are essential for interacting with non-technical users.
• Certifications : Common industry-standard certifications include CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, and vendor-specific credentials like CCNA.
