Dominican University New York invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Residence Life. Reporting to the Director of Residence Life, the Assistant Director plays a key leadership role in creating a safe, inclusive, and student-centered residential community that supports student success, personal development, and academic achievement. The Assistant Director provides leadership in the administration of residence life operations, student conduct, and the Resident Assistant (RA) program while promoting a living-learning environment that reflects the mission and values of the University.

The Assistant Director oversees the daily operations of an assigned residence hall community, supervises and mentors Resident Assistants, manages housing operations, and serves as a Hearing Officer for student conduct matters, including Title IX and Title VI cases as assigned. This position is responsible for responding to student and parent concerns, coordinating residence hall openings and closings, overseeing community development initiatives, and ensuring compliance with University policies and applicable federal and state regulations.

As a member of the Residence Life leadership team, the Assistant Director collaborates with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student engagement, retention, and well-being. The successful candidate will participate in a professional staff on-call rotation, respond to emergencies and critical incidents, and represent the Director of Residence Life during periods of absence.

This is a 12-month, full-time, live-in professional position requiring a regular day, evening, weekend, and on-call presence on campus. The position includes an on-campus apartment (year-round) and staff meal plan during the academic year. This is an immediate opening with an immediate start date.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Human Services, Social Services, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
• 3-5 year's professional experience working in Residence Life/Housing or other related field.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor student leaders.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make fair, equitable, and student-centered decisions.
• Experience utilizing Microsoft Office and student information, housing, or conduct management software.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student, faculty, and staff population.
• Ability to maintain a regular (day/night) presence on-campus.
• Must have a valid drivers license and is required to drive University vehicles.

Preferred:

• Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field.
• Experience with student conduct administration, housing operations, Outlook, Maxient, Jenzabar, or similar software platforms.
• Bilingual abilities.

Primary Responsibilities

• Oversee a residence hall community.
• Partake in a professional-staff on-call duty rotation and respond to campus incidents/emergencies.
• Represent the Director of Residence Life during his/her absence.
• Provides regular staff reports regarding their building and area of responsibility.
• Maintains daily contact with the Office of Residence Life, disseminating information to staff and student residents through regular individual and group meetings, bulletin boards, fliers, etc., as appropriate.
• Establishes an environment that facilitates personal and academic growth of all residents.
• Serve as a hearing officer and or appeal officer for student conduct, Title IX and or Title VI violations.
• Manage, investigate, assess, adjudicate, and or assign conduct cases to appropriate individuals.
• Enforces, supports, and adheres to the rules and regulations of the University, whether on duty or on call, maintaining appropriate professional standards on and off campus.
• Assist in the management of departmental housing operations (ie: room assignments, room changes, summer/winter/break housing, etc.).
• Utilizes and manages housing and student conduct software.
• Serve as a liaison between all University departments and serve on committees as assigned.
• Manages distribution, collection, and inventory of keys.
• Attends events sponsored by the area/campus staff as assigned and/or whenever possible.
• Identifies those residents who appear to be experiencing personal or academic difficulties and refers to on and off campus resources as needed (i.e. counselors, academic advising, Career Development Center).
• Attends to the personal well-being of the residents in such areas as safety, security and emergency situations.
• Assumes a major role in the recruitment, training, selection and supervision of RA's.
• Develops and implements RA's duty calendar, including administrative tasks and responsibilities.
• Responds to student and parent concerns.
• Identify and address building and custodial needs.
• Performs daily building walkthroughs.
• Monitors the damage billing and assessment processes in their building; i.e. room inspections, community billing, community area inspections, and damage summary reports.
• Coordinates all openings and closings with the RA staff of their assigned residence hall.
• Manages RA programming initiatives.
• Evaluates and provides feedback to Resident Assistants.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary: $62,355 (This salary is non-negotiable)
