Mortgage Loan Officer

The successful candidate will engage with the community, market SmartBank’s mortgage products, and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards. Responsibilities Actively participate in mortgage department meetings and geographic market meetings. Work in the community to create brand awareness through outside sales and events. Solicit first‑mortgage loans from prospective clients. Inform clients of underwriting and secondary‑market guidelines. Accept online applications and interview applicants by phone or in person. Complete each loan application and pre‑processing functions within the required timeline. Collaborate with the loan processor to gather documents and signatures. Order credit reports and analyze credit histories to determine loan repayment capabilities. Prepare underwriting documentation and submit loans to AUS for initial approval. Maintain consistent file management, documentation, and loan administration practices. Attend loan closings at community locations. Market SmartBank’s mortgage products to realtors, builders, CPAs, financial planners, title companies, and others. Complete weekly sales call reports and pipeline reports promptly. Handle mortgage loan inquiries and cold calls generated from advertising and referrals. Cross‑sell other bank products when appropriate. Comply with all applicable federal, state, and local banking laws and the Bank Secrecy Act. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements and Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field preferred. Two to four years of experience in originating secondary‑market mortgages, preferably in a bank environment. NMLS registration required with participation in periodic mortgage product, service, regulation, and compliance training. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Underwriting knowledge. Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills. Detail‑oriented, well‑organized, and able to handle multiple priorities. Adaptable to frequent changes and able to maintain confidentiality. High level of integrity and willingness to travel within the assigned territory. Ability to work independently with minimal guidance. Self‑motivated, takes initiative, and has a positive attitude. Proficient in Microsoft Windows applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and typing. Reliable attendance and openness to new ideas and methods. Work Conditions Ability to routinely stand, sit, bend, and stoop. Frequent use of wrists, hands, and fingers for document handling. Average visual acuity sufficient to prepare and inspect documents. Normal hearing for conversations. May be required to travel to training sessions or meetings.
