Barista

Baristas are responsible for the preparation, service, and delivery of a la carte food and drinks within their assigned coffee shop.

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in large-scale food preparation is preferred. ServeSafe certification must be obtained within one month of hire.

Ensure efficient daily operation of the assigned coffee shop.

Adhere to safety and sanitation practices and follow all health department regulations.

Operate coffee shop equipment including espresso/latte maker, blender, speed oven, and warming drawers.

Prepare and serve snacks to students.

Clean and sanitize coffee shop areas.

Set up and break down the coffee shop.

Collect money, and resolve daily drawer.

Operate a district POS system, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office programs.

Complete monthly inventory of all stock.

Coordinate with the barista supervisor in the making of school coffee shop slideshows, marketing, specialty drinks, and promotions.

Maintain a neat, clean personal appearance and wear district uniforms at all times when performing duties.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Possess the ability to effectively communicate, verbally, and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.

Work with the barista supervisor to ensure coffee shop coverage.

Place orders with various vendors for all needed supplies as needed.

Receive and check in orders from suppliers as needed.

Attend monthly department meetings.

Complete continuing education as directed by the SNS office.

Add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform those operations using units of American money and weight, volume, and distance measurements.

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to provide clear and complete instructions and the ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

The Barista will frequently walk short distances, continuously stand, frequently bend or twist at the neck and torso, continuously grip, occasionally reach, stoop, kneel and crouch. This employee will frequently lift 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

The employee will work in a busy coffee shop with occasional conditions of extreme heat or cold in a loud and fast-paced environment. There is a greater than average risk of minor burns and cuts.

Employment will be on an at-will basis for nine-months, beginning with the first day of the work calendar or at the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated personal leave. Each employee will be provided a yearly work calendar showing the specific daily work schedule of the employees. The work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education at any time, as needs dictate. A definite daily schedule will be established by the Director of Student Nutrition Services and the head cook and approved by the Deputy Superintendent. The yearly salary will be disbursed in nineteen (19) equal payments or twenty-four (24) equal payments per employee's choice. Part-time employees hired after July 1, 2020, will have hourly wages paid in accordance with the district payroll schedule.

End of the year performance evaluations will occur annually per the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support staff personnel.
