Production GMAW/FCAW Welder

$22.25 - $27 per hour

Great Dane Truck & Trailer

Job Description

Job Description

Shape what moves the world

At Great Dane, makers build the trailers and truck bodies that keep supply chains moving. Step onto our production floor and into a culture grounded in safety, quality, integrity, leadership, and passion. As a Production GMAW/FCAW Welder, you’ll join an expanding team where your craft directly supports our plant’s production goals.

Your week at a glance
  • Work a Monday–Thursday schedule with available overtime.
  • Choose from two shifts: 1st (6:00 AM–4:30 PM) or 2nd (4:30 PM–3:00 AM).
  • Earn from $22.25/hour to $27.00/hour, plus a +$0.50/hour premium for night shift.
  • Enjoy two weeks of paid vacation.
How you’ll contribute (a day in the life)

You begin by setting up your welder—dialing in gas, voltage, amperage, and wire speed. With PPE on and area prepped, you lay clean beads on flat, curved, vertical, and overhead joints. You load raw parts into machines, remove finished workpieces, and keep a sharp eye on conformance—checking with a straight edge or template. If a part’s warped, you’ll hammer it true. You’ll deburr and clean edges, sort and tag finished work, and move materials yourself or signal the crane operator. Throughout the shift, you make minor equipment adjustments, keep your station spotless, and pitch in on other routine tasks that keep production humming.

What you bring
  • Hands-on skill with pneumatic power tools and shop equipment.
  • Proven ability to read a tape measure and other measuring tools accurately.
  • Comfort welding in multiple positions, especially overhead.
  • Capacity to learn, remember, and switch among tasks day to day while meeting or exceeding required production levels.
  • Commitment to reducing scrap, minimizing waste, and using supplies efficiently.
  • Ownership of quality—inspecting your own work per standard operating procedures.
  • Blueprint and manufacturing order literacy; follows verbal and written directions.
  • Problem-solver with timely decision-making and effective English communication.
Physical and mental readiness
  • Lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly during 8–12 hour shifts.
  • Stand and move on concrete for 8–12 hours; see, walk, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb ladders, work overhead, push, and pull.
  • Remain in a constant state of alertness and work safely.
  • Maneuver large parts and assemblies (up to 180 pounds) by pushing, pulling, and flipping into place.
  • Accurate tape measure use and mechanically oriented thinking.
  • Ability to follow supervisor instruction and retain new information.
  • Ability to read blueprints and manufacturing orders and follow instructions verbally or in writing.
  • Identify and resolve issues promptly; communicate effectively in English.

The employer will make reasonable accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
