Our organization is in search of a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Surgical Oncologist to become part of a well-established and growing surgical oncology program. This role will provide surgical oncology services across various locations in Southeast Michigan , presenting a remarkable chance to cultivate a significant practice while aiding in regional expansion and program enhancement.

Position Highlights

  • Multidisciplinary cancer infrastructure, including:
    • Medical oncology
    • Radiation oncology
    • Gastroenterology

    • Oncology navigation and survivorship services

Program Support

The surgical oncologist will join a high-performing team, collaborating with two hepatobiliary (HPB) surgeons , who have a strong operative volume and a commitment to:

  • Education and surgical training
  • Program development
  • Clinical research and participation in clinical trials

This role offers the opportunity to collaborate in complex oncologic care and to further develop HPB and GI oncology services across the region.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive surgical oncology care within a multidisciplinary cancer program
  • Manage complex oncologic surgical cases, including advanced gastrointestinal and abdominal malignancies
  • Engage in multidisciplinary tumor boards and collaborative care planning
  • Support regional program growth, referral development, and access expansion
  • Contribute to quality improvement, outcomes tracking, and service line development
  • Participate in educational and research initiatives, including applicable clinical trials
Clinical Scope

The practice is structured to accommodate a diverse surgical oncology case mix. Preferred experience and/or interests include:

  • Melanoma and cutaneous malignancies
  • Soft tissue sarcoma
  • Complex gastrointestinal malignancies
  • Peritoneal surface disease
  • HPB oncology (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Gastric and upper GI oncology (based on training and interest)

The final case mix may be customized based on the candidate's expertise and regional requirements.

Qualifications
  • MD/DO required
  • Completion of a Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship (ACGME-accredited or equivalent), including programs approved by the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) and Canadian Surgical Oncology (CSSO)
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in General Surgery
  • Strong dedication to multidisciplinary collaboration and high-quality patient care
  • Proven interest in program growth and regional practice development
  • Experience in minimally invasive surgery preferred
