Our organization, along with the Division of Hospital Medicine, is thrilled to present a distinctive opportunity for Med-Peds hospitalists eager to pursue a career in academic hospital medicine. This role allows for a flexible combination of responsibilities on both the Med-Peds Consult Service and the pediatric hospital medicine teams, enabling candidates to customize their focus according to personal interests and career aspirations. As we expand our clinical initiatives and enhance our academic objectives, we are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about utilizing their dual training to provide care for patients spanning the pediatric to adult age range.
The Med-Peds Consult Service delivers internal medicine expertise for adult patients admitted to a pediatric facility, collaborating closely with both medical and surgical specialists. This service also provides resources to facilitate the transition of suitable patients to adult care providers. Beyond direct patient care, this position offers opportunities for involvement in the development of institution-wide adult transition programs and leadership roles within the Med-Peds residency program. This role is particularly suited for Med-Peds physicians dedicated to merging their dual training into innovative, age-appropriate inpatient care models.
Located at our main campus, the Med-Peds Consult Service operates within the Division of Hospital Medicine, which comprises over 70 faculty members across three locations, fostering a diverse array of clinical, educational, quality improvement, and research interests. We are currently focused on filling a hospitalist position at our main campus and encourage candidates interested in either full-time or part-time roles to apply.
Our facility is a standalone children's hospital featuring a level 1 trauma center and comprehensive subspecialty care. We host a well-established, ACGME-accredited 2-year pediatric hospitalist fellowship program with six fellows and play a vital role in the medical education of both the pediatric residency program and the University of Arizona Med-Peds residency program. Our faculty members hold academic positions at the University of Arizona, Creighton University, and Mayo Clinic School of Medicine.

The staff physician will deliver patient care services and support our mission of providing hope, healing, and exceptional healthcare for children and their families.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Care Services

  1) Deliver patient care services for which the physician is clinically privileged, including but not limited to:
  a) Provide direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  b) Offer subspecialty consultations and follow-up care.
  c) Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic services/procedures.
  d) Provide urgent/emergent care as necessary.
  2) Aim to achieve optimal patient and family-centered care.
  3) Support the hospital's patient satisfaction objectives as well as specific division targets.
  4) Adhere to divisional standards for patient safety and quality of care.
  5) Practice contemporary evidence-based medicine or the latest experience-based approaches.

• Divisional Responsibilities

  1) Set and demonstrate efforts to meet annual goals and objectives for the physician (individual, division, hospital).
  2) Contribute to the medical education programs and activities of the Division, including but not limited to:
  a) Supervise trainees and allied health professionals in delivering inpatient and outpatient services when applicable.
  b) Conduct teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences for trainees.
  c) Participate in the education and supervision of trainees and allied health professionals assigned to the division.
  d) Engage in postgraduate continuing education activities within the division.
  3) Support the division's research initiatives, including those led by other members.
  4) Foster programmatic growth within the division.
  5) Assist with satellite efforts of the division when appropriate.

  2) Conduct teaching rounds or conferences outside the organization, particularly if these activities support divisional clinical and educational initiatives.
  3) Represent the organization in the medical and business communities and to the public in a professional manner.
  4) The following physical and mental skills are essential for the physician to successfully perform the aforementioned duties:
  a) Ability to communicate via telephone, computer, or other communication devices.
  b) Willingness to perform after-hours or night call responsibilities as needed.
  c) Ability to work regular scheduled hours.

• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
