Position: NICU RN

Location: SMMC NICU, City, State

Shift Details

Night Shift: 3x12-Hour (18:00 - 06:30)

Job Description

The NICU RN will provide care in a Level III NICU, which handles approximately 190 births per month. The position requires flexibility as weekend shifts may exceed the standard every-other weekend schedule to accommodate unit needs. A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is required, with at least 1 year in the NICU specialty. First-time travel nurses are accepted.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to neonates and infants.
• Monitor patient conditions and manage various neonatal procedures.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, including respiratory services and pharmacy.
• Document patient care and observations using Epic charting system.

Floating Requirements

Travelers may be required to float to the Mother/Baby unit for care of patients if they have couplet experience.

Weekend Coverage

Every other weekend is required, with the possibility of additional shifts based on unit demands.

Required Certifications

• BCLS (Basic Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Experience Requirements

• 2 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year in NICU.
• Previous charge experience is preferred.
• Experience with patient ratios of 2-3 in the NICU setting.
• Travel experience required.

Skills and Proficiencies

• Administration of blood products and medication management.
• Ability to perform procedures such as APGAR scoring, blood glucose monitoring, and administering intravenous therapies.
• Experience managing respiratory support equipment, including CPAP and high-frequency ventilation.
• Multi-disciplinary collaboration with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
