PSYCHIATRIST - ADULT Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization. Premium Pay Bilingual pay: Qualified employees who meet the criteria found (page 16) shall receive an additional $0.70 per hour for all hours paid. Board Certification pay: Employees assigned on a regular, full‑time basis in this classification who are Board Certified shall receive the equivalent of $800 monthly in addition to their salary. Additional Compensation Five (5) days conference leave for Continuing Medical Education per year. Educational and professional reimbursement of up to $10,000 per year. No on‑call responsibilities. Flexible work schedules; a 4/10 schedule may be available. Psychiatrist Loan Repayment Program up to $22,500. Job Overview The role will serve adults and older adults with serious mental illness (SMI) and/or substance use disorders within the Adult and Older Adult Behavioral Health Services (AOABH). Services include assessment, evaluation, individual and group therapy, medication support, crisis intervention, and medication‑assisted treatment for co‑occurring disorders. Clinical care will be provided in outpatient clinics, intensive care management, and collaborative court programs. Professional & Technical Expertise Performs biopsychosocial assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Recognizes signs of an acute mental crisis or psychiatric emergency and stabilizes patients via medication adjustment or referral to higher care. Manages patients experiencing mood lability, severe depression, anxiety, anger, co‑occurring substance use, and other symptoms of mental illness. Has thorough knowledge of protective and risk factors for suicidal and homicidal ideation and how to reduce risk. Implements evidence‑based recommendations for psychiatric treatment, including long‑acting antipsychotics and clozapine for psychotic disorders. Screens and modifies treatment for adverse side effects or drug interactions related to psychiatric medications. Assesses and treats patients with co‑occurring substance use disorders, including recognition of intoxication and withdrawal. Interprets urine drug screens, understands false positives, provides counseling, and utilizes medications including naloxone to reduce substance‑use risk. Is proficient in an Electronic Health Record system to monitor status, document services, enter orders, and determine medical necessity. Interpersonal Savvy Demonstrates non‑verbal communication skills such as appropriate eye contact and body language. Involves the patient in treatment decision‑making and obtains informed consent for medication discussions. Assists other psychiatrists with consultations and medication refills as needed. Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and communicates effectively with nurses, social workers, therapists, case managers, and other team members. Maintains a respectful and professional demeanor during disagreements or conflicts. Collaborates with other physicians, program personnel, patients’ families, conservators, court personnel, community hospital staff, and other county agencies. Oral Communication, Writing, and Listening Prepares clear and concise documentation of assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans. Documents rationale for modifying diagnoses and medications, including diagnostic criteria and discussion of benefits and risks. Records functional impairment caused by a patient’s severe and persistent mental illness. Communicates challenging interactions respectfully, unbiased, and accurately. Practices active empathetic listening and uses open‑ended questions to encourage patients to share history and symptoms. Minimum Qualifications Minimum qualifications are as listed in the job bulletin, including the physical, mental, and environmental conditions required for the Psychiatrist classification.
