Requirements
What You'll Do
As an ALCA Teacher, you will play a key role in creating a structured, safe, supportive, and engaging classroom environment. You will oversee educational programming, ensure students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are implemented, and lead classroom staff in providing consistent, individualized support.
Instruction and Student Success
- Provide individualized instruction and group teaching to support students' academic, developmental, behavioral, and functional goals.
- Develop, implement, and monitor student IEPs, including goals, present levels of performance, instructional materials, and data collection systems.
- Conduct student assessments and collaborate with behavior analysts and related service professionals to support educational planning.
- Monitor student progress, maintain accurate data, and prepare quarterly progress updates and reports.
- Develop programming to maintain previously learned skills and promote continued student growth.
- Participate in and lead IEP meetings and other educational planning activities.
Classroom Leadership and Staff Development
- Supervise, train, and support classroom staff, including PMs, PMAs, and Instructional Assistants.
- Develop and maintain daily classroom schedules, staffing assignments, and instructional routines.
- Facilitate classroom meetings, student-specific training, and staff development.
- Provide constructive feedback and participate in staff performance evaluations.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and effective classroom environment that supports student learning and safety.
- Collaborate with BCBAs on staff participating in supervision programs, when applicable.
Family and Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with IEP team members, caregivers, school staff, and related service providers to support each student's needs.
- Facilitate parent-teacher conferences and regular caregiver communication through weekly teleconferences and daily home logs.
- Maintain accurate student records, emergency documentation, incident reports, and other required paperwork.
- Communicate student progress, classroom needs, and concerns to the appropriate team members.
Safety and Professional Responsibilities
- Follow individualized student plans and ALCA safety procedures, including crisis intervention protocols when necessary.
- Maintain current Professional Crisis Management (PCM) certification and participate in required weekly practice.
- Support classroom emergency preparedness, including fire, tornado, and lockdown drills.
- Complete required incident reports within 24 hours when applicable.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow mandated reporting requirements and all ALCA policies and procedures.
- Manage classroom resources and budgets in collaboration with the Finance Director.
- Wear ALCA-issued protective equipment during student hours and maintain regular, punctual attendance.
What We're Looking for in a Candidate
We are looking for an educator who is compassionate, dependable, organized, and committed to helping students with autism succeed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with the Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) endorsement at the bachelor's or master's level.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
- Ability to complete and maintain PCM certification, including annual recertification and required practice sessions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with children on the autism spectrum.
- At least two years of special education teaching experience.
- Early Childhood Letter of Approval, if applicable.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements
This position requires active participation in classroom and student-support activities. Essential physical demands may include standing, walking, running, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, reaching, and participating in approved crisis intervention procedures.
The role may require assisting with student movement or materials weighing up to 100 pounds, maintaining positions such as kneeling or crouching for extended periods, participating in strenuous physical activity for at least 20 continuous minutes, and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
The work environment may involve supporting students who exhibit physical aggression, exposure to bodily fluids and biological agents, cleaning chemicals, hazardous materials, and elevated noise levels.
