Registered Nurse

This position is for a 10 month school year with eligiblity for an additonal 2 months to be paid by State Special School Benefits through Unemployment Insurance.


Under the direction of the Supervising Registered Nurse, the incumbent performs general nursing care duties as assigned in a health unit clinic that is open 16 to 24 hours, serving the 500 students ages 3 to 22 at California School for the Deaf and California School for the Blind. Duties include: performs triage duties utilizing observation, assessment, intervention skills, and documents findings, medications administered and treatments given into the Electronic Health Record in a timely and professional manner. Demonstrates awareness of patient/student rights and the potential for patient/student abuses. Understands and adheres to all guidelines and procedures related to mandated reporting of child abuse. Interfaces with parents, school staff, nursing staff, and external medical staff by phone, VP, text, and email in a professional and courtesous manner at all times. Documents receipt of medication, administration of scheduled and as-needed medications, and other forms of dispersal in an appropriate and timely manner in the Electronic Health Record. Provide education to staff and students regarding health and safety issues. Resonsbile for performing TB screening questionnaire for staff, and assisting with various health screenings throughout the year. Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
Subject to fingerprinting and criminal record clearance by the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation and Tuberculosis clearance. This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
