Summer Academic Supervisor- Miami Shores, Florida Overview of the Position The Brook Hill Alliance (formerly PLUS) is a global leader in providing English language courses to international students. Brook Hill runs summer English language study and travel programs for international high school students across North America. The programs allow students the opportunity to take English classes and explore the surrounding regions while staying at North American colleges and universities. The Academic Supervisor is a seasonal, full‑time, salaried, and in‑person position which manages the logistics of Brook Hill's academic program at a certain campus. Duties include managing a staff of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instructors and specialty course instructors, coordinating teachers' schedules, assigning teachers to classrooms, assigning students to classrooms (based on placement tests), supervising and providing feedback on instruction, addressing any issues as they arise, and providing customer service to students and their chaperones. This position is not eligible for on‑campus housing. Travel to and from campus as part of your commute is not compensated. Costs related to parking may not be included, but complimentary parking permits may be available depending on the campus. The Academic Supervisor is expected to be present during all class sessions. Classes are Monday‑Saturday, on average 4–5 times a week (with some Saturday mornings required). Some weeks may require up to six days of classes. Most lessons are 8:30 am‑12:15 pm, with some additional afternoon classes 1:15 pm‑5:00 pm. Some work outside of class hours will be required. Peak enrollment is usually the last two weeks of July. Compensation Wages start at $684 per week Specific Duties and Responsibilities Standard Expectations Interact with groups of international high school students and their group leaders in a professional, enthusiastic, and customer service‑oriented manner Be familiar with, adhere to, and enforce Brook Hill policies and procedures, including emergency and public health protocols Ensure the safety of all participants Be familiar with campus‑specific information Maintain frequent communication with Brook Hill staff Assist with emergency situations, as needed Complete all Brook Hill assessments received during employment period Assist in duties other than the aforementioned and the following, as assigned and as they arise Academic Program Manage all logistics of the site‑specific academic program Manage all instructors, including coordinating their schedules, reviewing and approving time sheets, supervising and providing feedback on instruction, and assigning them classrooms based on the list of available classrooms provided by Brook Hill Together with instructors, create a safe, comfortable, and engaging learning environment for all students Review the curricula provided by Brook Hill to be adequately familiar with lesson plans. Instructors may supplement the curriculum with their own materials, as appropriate. Download and review all online placement test scores per session; assist with sorting students into levels and classes based on test scores Consult with instructors after the first lesson to ensure students have been placed into the correct level; conduct assessments of students' oral proficiency, as needed Provide superior customer service to students and their chaperones Meet with all chaperones at the beginning of each session to provide an overview of the academic programs and answer any questions; meet with chaperones as needed and as requested during the remainder of each session Check all attendance sheets within the first 15 minutes of class and immediately address any student absences with group leaders and the rest of the Brook Hill team to locate students Copy any worksheets needed per class and distribute to instructors as needed Distribute classroom supplies to instructors as needed Communicate with the host institution regarding classroom needs and technology issues, as needed Coordinate the completion and distribution of end‑of‑course certificates Attend and present at the students' graduation ceremony Give presentation about programs Conduct a one‑hour observation of teachers (at minimum) and provide feedback to instructors Conduct performance evaluations for each teacher Fill in as substitute teacher for in‑person and online lessons as needed Oversee select online instructors and classrooms, as needed Collaborate with the instructors and Brook Hill administration regarding instructional methods and the curriculum Attend training session and any additional meetings organized by the Brook Hill administration Train site‑specific instructors Maintain frequent and professional communication with instructors Qualifications and Desired Skills Authorization to work in the U.S. required Must be 18 years or older Bachelor's degree required; TESOL certificate and/or Master's degree preferred Prior teaching experience required; prior EFL/ESL teaching experience strongly preferred Prior supervisory experience strongly preferred Prior management and coordination experience strongly preferred Prior customer service experience strongly preferred Experience working with multicultural and multilingual classrooms strongly preferred Command of Google Drive (including Google Sheets and Google Slides) and the Microsoft suite of products (including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) required Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required Successful candidates will be self‑motivated, professional, and adaptable, with strong interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills, and be able to work independently. Because this role involves working with minors, employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and any required fingerprinting, in compliance with state and federal regulations.
