Sterile Processing TechnicianUnder the supervision of the Director of Surgical Services, the sterile processing technician is responsible for processing instrument trays and other supplies for surgical procedures, dependent on individual experience, and as per NTMC policy.Summary Of Essential Job FunctionsSets up and maintains instrument trays for minor and major surgical procedures, applying principles of asepsis and other appropriate guidelines.Organizes instruments, equipment and supplies for easy access and maximum efficiency.Ensures that all sterilized items have required sterility monitors to validate effectiveness of sterile processing.Maintains accurate records of all sterilization procedures with immediate notification to the director of any variances, suspected or noted.Ensures minimal delays in surgical schedule as a result of instrument or equipment management.Uses patient transfer devices applying appropriate safety principles.Ensures that preventive maintenance and quality controls are provided for sterilization equipment.Applies safety procedures, universal precautions, and principles of asepsis in all actions.Uses appropriate instrument transport, decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization techniques in the maintenance of equipment and supplies.Demonstrates effective hand washing, performed at task appropriate intervals.Manages inventory of specific instruments and supplies.Coordinates own schedule and priorities with floor coordinator, other department staff and physicians.Maintains awareness of own limitations, seeks guidance from appropriate coworkers. Does not accept inappropriate delegated assignments.Assists with/performs independently other department functions, such as endoscopy technician and scheduler/secretary.Basic SkillsBasic computer skillsDemonstrates ability to work effectively as a team member, supports and assist the team.Education And Work Experience RequiredCurrent BLS CertificationSterile Processing Technician certification requiredLanguage SkillsAbility to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writingAdditional languages a plusPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.May be required to assist with patients or equipment up to 500 lbs.Must be able to stand and walk 75% of shift on hard surfaces.Must be able to sit, bend, stoop and reach above one's headQualificationsEducationHigh School or better.Licenses & CertificationsBasic Life SupportEqual Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
