License pending is acceptable, but a valid RN license is required for auto offer. Candidates must complete the RN license application within 48 hours of signing. Assignment length is 13 weeks with the option for 4x12 or 3x12 shifts. Weekend coverage may be more frequent than every other weekend based on staffing needs. Clinicians may float to lower acuity units to meet facility requirements. Previous experience in a stepdown unit is beneficial. The patient population includes a variety of cardiac and respiratory conditions. Responsibilities include working with a bedside RN, Virtual RN, and CNA for each patient. Patients will typically have a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio. The unit serves adults and geriatric patients requiring higher levels of monitoring. Knowledge in managing cardiac telemetry and complex medical surgical patients is necessary. The virtual nurse assists with admissions, discharges, rounding, education, and safety rounds. Strong skills in airway management, telemetry, and eupnea are required. Compliance with isolation precautions and managing central lines is essential. Expect to be involved with multidisciplinary teams including physical therapy and respiratory services. Candidates should be knowledgeable in interpreting arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias. Familiarity with using rapid response and code teams is a plus.
