Data Center Chief Engineer

Regional Chief Engineer (CE)Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a highly motivated Regional Chief Engineer (CE) to join our Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team. This committed group works to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports AWS. Specifically, this team works to ensure the safe and secure operation of the data center's Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) infrastructure to provide 99.999% availability for our customers. The Regional CE is responsible for ensuring that all MEP equipment within the region is operating at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response. The Regional CE serves as an expert technical resource interacting with on-site Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT), CEs, Facility Managers (FM), and third party vendors. The Regional CE also manages medium-to-large projects and programs from conception to completion. These projects and programs involve large amounts of independent work, as well as, collaboration with external support groups including engineering, automation, processing, and finance in both local and global settings. The goals of such projects are for the Regional CE to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs in the facilities.Key job responsibilities:Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a data centerOperate independently with limited direct managementAct as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the regionPerform root cause analysis of equipment failuresCreate and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teamsProvide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers and Facility ManagersEnsure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staffCommunicate complex technical information to a non-technical audienceWork cross-functionally across teams to effect cluster-wide performance improvement with our internal and external partners by designing and implementing processes, metrics, and programs that enhance the end to end employee experienceCollaborate effectively across teams to define strategy, goals, and obtain commitment to timelines and deliverablesPhysical Requirements:Walk job sites in uneven terrainWork at heights and from laddersRegularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds; and participate in group lifts for 40 pounds or moreCoordinate body movements when using tools or equipmentReach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balanceBend or twist the body into unusual positions while workingPerform physical tasks all day without becoming overly tiredUse hands to manipulate small wires and objectsWork in a noisy environmentWork at depths, such as under raised floorsThis role supports data centers in various operational stages. The position may be assigned to a facility still under development, which could require travel to established locations for training until your designated site becomes fully operational.
