Registered Nurse General Surgery Med Surg

Mission Health, based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse for our General Surgery / Med Surg unit within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to adult patients recovering from general surgery procedures and those requiring acute medical-surgical care. You will be responsible for comprehensive patient assessments, developing and implementing individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient responses, and collaborating closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

The Registered Nurse will coordinate and prioritize patient care on a busy Med Surg floor, ensuring safe transitions through admission, post-operative recovery, and discharge planning. You will perform ongoing patient and family education regarding surgical procedures, pain management, wound care, medications, and follow-up care, promoting patient engagement and understanding. Utilizing critical thinking and strong clinical judgment, you will recognize changes in patient condition, respond promptly to emergencies, and escalate concerns to the appropriate providers.

Working in our collaborative culture at Mission Health, you will participate in bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary team huddles, and quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety, clinical outcomes, and patient satisfaction. You will document all aspects of care accurately in the electronic health record, follow established protocols, policies, and evidence-based practice guidelines, and adhere to all regulatory and infection prevention standards. Nurses in this unit regularly manage post-operative drains, catheters, IV infusions, central lines, and specialized surgical equipment, and they support pain control and early mobilization to promote optimal recovery.
