Under the direction of the principal and teacher(s), the Elementary Aide assists teachers in a variety of capacities in the instruction and supervision of students. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position. Essential Functions Assists in the preparation of instructional materials. Assists in the instruction of students and other classroom activities as needed. May tutor students individually or in small groups under the direction of the teacher. Assists with physical and emotional maintenance of students with disabilities including assessing curriculum and participating in school or classroom activities. Assist students needing supplemental help with various school subjects and programs. Assist in the administration of a variety of tests and monitor students’ academic progress. Keeps accurate data on assigned students or groups of students. Supports a school environment that helps students develop and maintain a positive self-concept. Support classroom behavior management to maintain a positive and focused learning environment. Maintains professional confidentiality regarding student information. Maintains effective and positive communication with students, teachers, parents, patrons and administration. Positive interaction with students, teachers, social workers, psychologists, support personnel and administrators. Assists in school events at the direction of the principal Requires ability to work effectively with staff and students Requires ability to exercise emotional control in difficult situations. Requires ability to solve a variety of problems relating to individual student needs and behaviors. Problem solving is guided by policies and procedures set by administration and the licensed teachers. Requires knowledge of and assistance for the safety and security of students assigned to the classroom (e.g., helping students on and off buses on a rotating schedule, supervising play activities, field trips and lunches). Effectively implements interventions and strategies as outlined in Individualised Education Plans (IEP), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), or other student success plans. Collects behavior data and provides reports and/or graphs of the data to school personnel for use in developing behavior intervention plans. Provides feedback about specific student needs. May assist in on-the-job training to other paraeducators as appropriate. Responds to critical situations in a variety of locations on a temporary, as needed basis. Demonstrates flexibility, the ability to work independently and problem solve. During times of emergency, all employees may be required to perform additional duties that are not required on a normal basis in support of educational and operational priorities. Supervision of a student in a location outside the classroom as needed. Participate in professional development as directed by your administrator. Must be able to work assigned hours. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administrator. Lunchroom/Recess Supervision Supports a safe, positive, and organized environment during student recess and lunch periods. This role ensures student well-being, promotes respectful behavior, and assists with maintaining school policies. Supervise students during recess and lunch to ensure safety and appropriate behavior. Monitor playground and lunchroom activities, intervening when necessary to prevent accidents or conflicts. Enforce school rules and encourage positive social interactions among students. Assist students with basic needs, such as opening food containers or addressing minor concerns. Respond promptly to incidents, injuries, or emergencies following school protocols. Communicate effectively with teachers and staff regarding student behavior or issues. Maintain cleanliness and order in lunchroom areas, including assisting with cleanup as needed. Support inclusion and fairness during games and activities on the playground. Report any safety hazards or equipment concerns to appropriate personnel. Serve as a positive role model, promoting respect and responsibility among students. Math Intervention Responsible for assisting in the delivery of effective math instruction to elementary school students. This position involves working closely with classroom teachers and instructional coach to provide targeted math interventions, monitor student progress, and create a supportive environment that fosters mathematical development. Assist in implementing research-based math programs and strategies to support students’ mathematical development. Provide one-on-one or small group math instruction to students who require additional support. Use a variety of instructional materials and resources to engage students in math activities. Administer math assessments as directed by classroom teachers. Track and record student progress in math and share this information with the instructional team. Collaborate with classroom teachers to align math instruction with classroom curriculum and goals. Communicate regularly with teachers to discuss student progress and adjust instruction accordingly. Organize and maintain math resources, including textbooks, manipulatives, and technology tools. Assist in creating a math-friendly classroom environment. Reading Intervention Responsible for assisting in the delivery of effective reading instruction to elementary school students. This position involves working closely with classroom teachers and the instructional coach to provide targeted reading interventions, monitor student progress, and create a supportive environment that fosters literacy development. Assist in implementing research-based reading programs and strategies to support students' literacy development. Provide one-on‑one or small group reading instruction to students who require additional support. Use a variety of instructional materials and resources to engage students in reading activities. Administer reading assessments Track and record student progress in reading and share this information with the instructional team. Collaborate with classroom teachers to align reading instruction with classroom curriculum and goals. Organize and maintain literacy resources, including books, instructional materials, and technology tools. Assist in creating a literacy-rich classroom environment. Support classroom discipline and behavior management to maintain a positive and focused learning environment. Reinforce classroom rules and expectations related to reading activities. English Language (EL) Support Under the direction of the school Principal, EL Support teacher, and District EL Support Team, the English Learner (EL) Program Paraprofessional will support the implementation of the District English Learner Master Plan by helping to maintain student records; administering annual assessments; communicating with families and monitoring student progress; providing student language instruction and support; and facilitating communication between families of English Learners. Provides instruction to individuals or small groups of English Language Learner students in a classroom, pull‑out, or other learning environment. Plans and provides instruction and learning activities. Assists teachers and support staff to develop and evaluate individual and group educational goals and objectives. Assures student understanding of content/material being taught; answers student questions; assists students in reviewing assignments and test results. Administers WIDA screener and annual WIDA ACCESS testing. Performs and documents all federal processes pertaining to EL students. Builds home‑school relationships. Must be discreet in responding to student behavior and educational needs whenever possible. Will assist and guide students by providing appropriate role modeling, emotional support, patience, and a friendly and engaging attitude. Must communicate with students in English and support English language development to facilitate instructional processes. Classroom Support Responsible for assisting teachers in the effective delivery of instruction and ensuring a positive and supportive learning environment for elementary school students. They collaborate with classroom teachers and other educational professionals to enhance the educational experience for all students. Provide one-on‑one or small group instruction to students as directed by the teacher. Reinforce concepts introduced by the teacher and help students with classwork and assignments. Support classroom discipline and behavior management by reinforcing established rules and expectations. Help maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment conducive to learning. Provide additional support for students who are struggling academically or require extra help. Prepare instructional materials, visual aids, and classroom displays. Organize and maintain educational resources, such as textbooks, supplies, and technology. Stay informed about best practices in education and special education. Promote a culturally sensitive and inclusive classroom environment that respects diversity and foster acceptance among students. Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder/stairs to access high objects or different levels of the building. Constantly positions self to maintain files, students, or objects. Have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Have the ability to observe details at close and far range. Frequently move items weighing up to 50 pounds across the classroom for various needs. May work in outdoor weather conditions.
