Job Description Area Supervisor – Welding & Fabrication Location: Harlan, Iowa Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Salary: $55,000–$70,000 annually, based on experience Industry: Manufacturing Position Overview A well-established and growing manufacturer is seeking an experienced Area Supervisor – Welding & Fabrication to lead daily production activities within its Harlan, Iowa facility. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for supervising approximately 5–10 employees, coordinating workflow, meeting production goals, and maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and productivity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in welding, metal fabrication, stamping, forming, or punching operations and a proven ability to develop and lead production employees. Key Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate daily welding and metal fabrication operations. Lead, coach, and develop a production team of approximately 5–10 employees. Assign work, allocate resources, and ensure production deadlines are met. Monitor workflow, labor utilization, productivity, quality, and departmental performance. Promote a safe, accountable, and team-oriented work environment. Partner with Planning, Engineering, Production, and other departments to meet customer delivery commitments. Identify and implement improvements related to safety, quality, efficiency, and cost. Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous-improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and environmental health and safety requirements. Conduct performance evaluations, employee coaching, development planning, and corrective actions when necessary. Promote cross-training to improve workforce flexibility and departmental coverage. Lead safety inspections, incident reporting, and departmental safety initiatives. Required Qualifications At least five years of relevant manufacturing, welding, or fabrication experience. Previous experience supervising or leading approximately 5–10 production employees. Strong working knowledge of welding and metal fabrication processes. Experience with metal stamping, forming, punching, or related manufacturing operations. Demonstrated ability to plan workflow, assign labor, and meet production schedules. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to hold employees accountable while maintaining a positive and productive work environment. Consistent and stable employment history within relevant manufacturing environments. Ability to work onsite in Harlan, Iowa, during the scheduled first-shift hours. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Business, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. Experience with production scheduling and capacity planning. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles. Experience using an ERP system; SAP experience is especially helpful. Background in employee coaching, performance management, and cross-training. Experience working closely with Engineering, Planning, Quality, and Operations teams.
