Mental Health Treatment Aide - Correctional Health Services *Sunday-Thursday, 7am-3pm*

Position Full‑Time Mental Health position in The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals, located at Rikers Island. Pay $28 per hour. Overview Provides medical, mental health care, and discharge planning within the NYC jail system. Serves approximately 25% of new admissions and offers a range of therapeutic modalities, including specialty housing, 24‑hour psychiatric service, creative arts programming, and DBT training. Responsibilities Orient patients to unit policies, procedures, and schedule. Use crisis and de‑escalation interventions when required. Identify environmental triggers for agitation and communicate findings to the treatment team. Perform patient checks and rounds; conduct 1:1 monitoring as needed. Communicate clinical matters to assigned Mental Health/DOC staff and report any unusual findings to supervisors. Escort patients to groups or other required locations. Document group activities and behavioral observations. Participate in departmental clinical training and regular 1:1 supervision with the MHTA supervisor. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Respond to emergencies and cooperate with DOC staff when necessary. Engage DOC staff for violence incidents, contraband findings, or other safety concerns. Qualifications Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Services, or related health field, or High School diploma/GED with two years full‑time experience in Nursing Behavioral Health or related field, or any combination of these. Ability to understand and execute written and oral instructions. Strong interpersonal skills with patients and co‑workers.
