It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.Description of WorkReporting to the Associate Warden of Programs at a multi-custody male correctional facility, this position's primary purpose is to coordinate the operational functions of the Food Service Department. Other job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:Planning, directing and supervising the preparation and serving of food to offenders at a large complex correctional facility with hospital operations and with complex offender populations with special needs.Managing the fiscal and personnel operations of the Food Service Department and conducting investigations as needed as it relates to operational needs.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management PreferencesCandidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the Minimum Education and Experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.About Central PrisonCentral Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers.While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry, or canteen. Offenders also work as barbers, janitors, and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or other worship services.
