Electrical Maintenance Technician

An Electrical Maintenance Technician ensures the safe and efficient operation of industrial electrical systems by installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment such as motors, wiring, and controllers. Key duties include troubleshooting faults, performing preventative maintenance, and reading technical schematics to ensure compliance with electrical codes. Key Responsibilities Preventative Maintenance & Inspection: Routinely inspects electrical systems, circuits, motors, and panels to identify hazards or defects before they cause failures. Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnoses malfunctions using testing devices (voltmeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes) and repairs/replaces faulty wiring, breakers, or components. Installation & Upgrades: Installs new electrical systems, conduits, and equipment, following blueprints, schematics, and the National Electrical Code (NEC). System Testing: Tests the performance of electrical systems and components to ensure they operate efficiently. Documentation: Maintains accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections. Requirements & Qualifications Experience: Proven experience (often 3-5+ years) as a maintenance electrician in industrial or commercial environments. Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of electrical systems (120v-480v three-phase), PLC troubleshooting, and motor controls. Safety Knowledge: Thorough understanding of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 70E). Tools: Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and electrical diagnostic equipment. Common Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; certification in electrical maintenance or completion of an apprenticeship is often preferred.
