This individual will be responsible for delivering high-quality tax compliance, planning, and advisory services while serving as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for clients on complex tax matters.The Tax Manager or Director will work closely with Tax Partners and other professionals across the Firm to understand clients’ businesses, identify tax planning opportunities, evaluate the tax implications of business decisions and transactions, and develop strategies designed to minimize tax liabilities and compliance risk.The successful candidate will have strong technical knowledge of corporate and partnership taxation, significant public accounting experience, and demonstrated success managing client relationships and engagement teams. At the Director level, the individual will also be expected to take a more significant role in client development, practice growth, staff development, and strategic leadership.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan, manage, review, and oversee tax compliance engagements for closely held and middle-market businesses and their owners, including partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations.Review complex federal, state, and local income tax returns and related workpapers for accuracy, completeness, and technical compliance.Serve as a primary client contact and trusted advisor on complex tax compliance, planning, and business matters.Develop a thorough understanding of clients’ businesses, industries, ownership structures, and strategic objectives to identify tax planning opportunities and potential risks.Advise clients on the tax implications of business decisions, transactions, entity structures, and other strategic initiatives.Identify and recommend tax planning strategies designed to minimize clients’ overall tax burden while maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations.Work closely with Tax Partners to develop and execute tax planning and compliance strategies for clients.Perform and oversee technical tax research and prepare memoranda, correspondence, and other documentation supporting tax positions and recommendations.Analyze complex federal and state tax issues and effectively communicate findings and recommendations to clients and Partners.Identify technical tax risks and escalate significant or uncertain positions to the appropriate Partner.Manage federal and state tax notices, examinations, and correspondence with taxing authorities.Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, including engagement scope, staffing, budgets, realization, deadlines, and overall service delivery.Monitor engagement progress and proactively address potential scheduling, budget, technical, or client-service issues.Review work performed by Associates, Senior Associates, and other engagement team members and provide timely, meaningful feedback.Supervise, coach, train, and mentor tax professionals while supporting their technical and professional development.Participate in staff scheduling and resource planning to ensure engagements are appropriately staffed and client deadlines are met.Collaborate with professionals across other Tax, Audit, and Advisory service areas to identify and address broader client needs.Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships through additional Firm services.Participate in prospective client meetings, proposals, networking activities, and other business development initiatives.At the Director level, take an active role in developing new business, expanding client relationships, mentoring Managers, and supporting the strategic growth of the Tax practice.Stay current on federal and state tax legislation, regulations, court decisions, and other developments that may impact clients.Maintain the highest standards of quality, client service, professional judgment, and Firm risk management.QualificationsMust be able to work in the office a minimum of 3 days per week.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university required.Master’s degree in Taxation preferred.Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation required.7+ years of progressive tax experience within a public accounting firm required; additional experience expected for consideration at the Director level.Significant experience serving privately held and middle-market commercial clients across a variety of industries.Strong technical knowledge of federal corporate and partnership taxation, including C corporations, S corporations, and partnerships.Demonstrated experience reviewing complex business tax returns and related workpapers.Strong knowledge of tax compliance and planning strategies for closely held businesses and their owners.Experience researching and resolving complex federal and state tax matters.Experience responding to federal and state tax notices and working with taxing authorities.Demonstrated ability to identify tax planning opportunities and translate complex technical concepts into practical recommendations for clients.Strong understanding of the risks associated with technical tax positions and the judgment necessary to identify and communicate significant matters to Partners.Demonstrated experience managing multiple tax engagements, client relationships, budgets, deadlines, and engagement teams.Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and serve as a trusted advisor to business owners, executives, and other key decision-makers.Demonstrated leadership experience supervising, developing, and mentoring Associates, Senior Associates, and other tax professionals.Ability to provide timely and meaningful written and verbal feedback and create an environment that supports professional growth and development.Strong business acumen with the ability to understand clients’ operations and recognize opportunities to provide additional value.Experience identifying cross-selling opportunities and introducing clients to other Firm capabilities.Business development and practice-growth experience preferred, with greater emphasis placed on these capabilities at the Director level.Excellent analytical, research, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, Partners, and professionals at all levels.Strong attention to detail with the ability to exercise sound professional judgment and manage competing priorities.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and professional tax compliance, research, and engagement software; experience with CCH Axcess, CCH Engagement, and BNA Tax Planner preferred.Compensation & Benefits:The compensation for this position ranges from $100,000 - $150,000.
