Doula Contractors

POSITION SUMMARY

Families Forward Resource Center (FFRC) is seeking to contract with professionally trained and experienced Full-spectrum Doulas to support participants in our Healthy Babies, Strong Families program. Doulas, also known as a birth assistant or labor companions, are non-medical professionals who provide support to a birthing person before, during, and after childbirth. Doulas are knowledgeable about the medical aspects of labor and delivery, but they are not trained to provide medical assistance. The role of a Doula is to make the labor and delivery process as comfortable, healthy, and emotionally satisfying for the birthing person as possible. Doula services do not include the diagnosis of medical conditions, provision of medical advice, or any type of clinical assessment, examination, or procedure. To succeed in this role, Doulas must be dedicated to Black birthing justice, forward-thinking, innovative, reflective, and detail-oriented. FFRC Doulas provide intentional, trauma-informed support to eliminate perinatal health inequities for our Healthy Babies, Strong Families program participants and demonstrate enthusiasm for connecting them to internal resources, including lactation support, group education, mental wellness support, and fourth-trimester care. Doulas are expected to commit to life‑long learning to expand expertise, advance programmatic and organizational support to program participants and the community, and engage in quality improvement efforts to optimize support and services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provide two (2) prenatal visits (up to four hours total) Provide up to twelve (12) hours of labor and birth support Provide two (2) hours of post-birth support at the place of birth Support with breastfeeding initiation (when applicable) Provide one (1) postpartum in‑home support visit (up to two hours) Complete screenings and documentation during the initial prenatal visit, including: Depression Screening Interpersonal Violence Screening Reproductive Life Plan Health Insurance Coverage Partner Inclusion/Support Complete the birth preference plan with the participant, including: Prenatal Care Provider Intended Place of Birth Expected Due Date Preferred Birth Method Plan for Breastfeeding Provide information on: Medical interventions and procedures C‑section procedures (planned and emergency) and doula support during procedures Aftercare for birthing person and baby Placenta, postpartum depression/anxiety, umbilical cord care, circumcision care (if applicable) Educate on: Breastfeeding, pumping, milk storage, and bottle feeding (when applicable) Help create a post‑birth support schedule Discuss timing for: Arrival at the intended place of birth Arrival at home for postpartum support Collaborate with Community Health Worker and Program Manager for resource navigation Coordinate warm hand‑off and postpartum home visits with Community Health Worker Encourage participation in internal FFRC support: Lactation Support Group Education (Mandatory) Mental Wellness Support Fourth Trimester Care Maintain contact with participants via phone, text, and/or virtual visits during the prenatal journey Use case management database to track engagement, encounters, and birth outcomes Maintain appropriate credentials Maintain positive rapport with program participants, community members, partners, health care staff, and FFRC team Exhibit professional demeanor in all interactions Other duties as stated in the contract

COMPENSATION

Compensation: $1650.00 total per individual participant support, including:

• 1050 per birth
• 200 per prenatal and postpartum visit (3 total)

Not to exceed $50,000 per contract and fiscal year (April - March) This is a grant‑funded position that is dependent on external funding. Therefore, continued contracting is contingent upon the receipt of funding to cover this role. Requirements Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Accountabilities Genuine interest and dedication to Families Forward Resource Center’s mission Genuine interest and dedication to Black Birthing Justice Warm and welcoming Professional attitude and appearance Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong multi‑tasking and time management skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Google Products Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to work independently Experience and ability to identify with individuals and families on their perinatal health journeys with an intentional focus on Black and African American community members as those most impacted by maternal and infant health inequities Collaborative team‑based approach to support other FFRC programs to ensure effective communication and coordination Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and navigate adversity Participation as an FFRC team player by attending doula check‑in meetings and other organizational events Willingness to share knowledge to advance the knowledge and skills of others Conformance to a drug‑free workplace, not be under the influence of alcohol and/or other illicit drugs of misuse and abuse A professional, positive, and polite attitude and relationship with FFRC employees, volunteers, clients, and partners

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
