Position Overview The Van Alstyne Police Department is looking for exceptional, TCOLE Certified Police Officers who are committed to excellence in public service and dedicated to making a lasting difference in the community they serve. As a Patrol Officer, you will serve on the front lines of public safety by responding to calls for service, enforcing local and state laws, conducting investigations, preventing crime, and providing assistance during emergencies. Officers are expected to exercise sound judgment, demonstrate professionalism in every interaction, and uphold the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and accountability. Key Responsibilities Enforce Laws Enforce federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and statutes Make arrests and issue citations for violations Ensure compliance with traffic laws, including issuing citations Respond to Emergency Calls Respond promptly to emergency situations, including accidents, medical emergencies, crimes in progress, and disturbances Provide first aid or emergency medical assistance as necessary until paramedics or other medical personnel arrive Patrol Assigned Areas Patrol assigned areas, including neighborhoods, business districts, and highways, to deter and detect criminal activity Observe and report any suspicious or unusual activities and take appropriate action Investigate Crimes Conduct criminal investigations, including collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and writing detailed reports Interview suspects, victims, and witnesses to gather information and solve crimes Prepare and present evidence in court, if necessary Community Engagement and Policing Build relationships with the community through positive interaction, engagement, and proactive policing efforts Attend community meetings and events to foster trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the public Maintain Public Order Respond to civil disturbances, protests, or demonstrations, ensuring public safety and order while protecting constitutional rights Manage crowd control and direct traffic at public events or accident scenes Write Reports and Maintain Documentation Write detailed reports of incidents, arrests, investigations, and other law enforcement actions Maintain accurate records, including case files and evidence logs Testify in Court Appear in court to testify in criminal cases, including providing testimony based on firsthand knowledge or evidence collected Present reports, evidence, and sworn testimony in support of criminal cases Prevent Crime and Promote Safety Proactively patrol areas known for high crime rates to deter criminal activity Conduct safety education programs and provide resources for crime prevention to the public Collaborate with Other Agencies Work with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to investigate and resolve complex or multi-jurisdictional crimes Participate in task forces or special operations, such as narcotics or gang investigations Adhere to Departmental Policies Follow all department policies and procedures, including the use of force protocols, to ensure ethical and legal standards are maintained Participate in ongoing training to stay current with new laws, technologies, and best practices in law enforcement Use Technology and Equipment Operate law enforcement equipment, including patrol cars, radios, body cameras, firearms, and other tools necessary for law enforcement duties Record and track evidence using department systems and technologies. Minimum Qualifications Must be TCOLE Certified Must be at least 21 years old at the time of application U.S. citizen High school diploma or equivalent Valid Texas Driver’s License No felony convictions No misdemeanor convictions other than traffic violations in the last five (5) years Must pass a physical fitness test, background investigation, medical examination, drug screen and psychological evaluation Must possess an honorable discharge from the military (if applicable) Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check Must possess a stable work history Desired Qualifications Two years of law enforcement experience Some college (preferred, but not required) Bilingual skills are a plus Prior military service (preferred, but not required) #J-18808-Ljbffr Gfoat
