Job Description Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor – Approved Clinical Supervisor (LCPC-S) State of Maryland Job Title Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor – Approved Clinical Supervisor (LCPC-S) Position Summary The Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with Approved Clinical Supervisor status (LCPC-S) provides professional mental health counseling services to individuals, couples, families, and groups while also supervising counselors pursuing licensure in Maryland. The LCPC-S is responsible for clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions, crisis management, documentation, and clinical supervision in accordance with Maryland laws, ethical standards, and professional counseling best practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Services Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments and mental health evaluations. Diagnose behavioral health conditions using current diagnostic criteria. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans. Provide evidence-based counseling and psychotherapy services. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and treatment records. Conduct risk assessments for suicide, self-harm, abuse, neglect, and violence. Collaborate with physicians, psychiatrists, schools, social service agencies, and other healthcare providers. Provide crisis intervention and emergency response services when necessary. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable state and federal regulations. Clinical Supervision Responsibilities Provide clinical supervision to Licensed Graduate Professional Counselors (LGPCs) and other counseling professionals seeking licensure. Review clinical cases, treatment plans, documentation, and ethical decision-making processes. Monitor supervisees' professional development and competency. Ensure supervisees meet Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists requirements. Maintain supervision records and documentation as required by Maryland regulations. Offer guidance regarding legal, ethical, and professional counseling standards. Facilitate professional growth through mentoring, training, and performance feedback. Administrative and Leadership Functions Participate in program development and quality improvement initiatives. Assist with policy development and implementation. Provide consultation to multidisciplinary teams. Support accreditation and regulatory compliance activities. May assist with staff training, onboarding, and clinical program management. Required Qualifications Active Maryland Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) license in good standing. Approved Clinical Supervisor designation recognized by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. Master's or doctoral degree in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution. Minimum post-licensure clinical experience required by Maryland supervisory regulations. Demonstrated knowledge of psychotherapy modalities, assessment techniques, and behavioral health treatment practices. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience supervising LGPCs or other mental health professionals. Training in evidence-based treatment approaches such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, or trauma-informed care. Experience working with diverse populations. Leadership or program management experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Advanced clinical assessment and diagnostic skills. Knowledge of Maryland counseling laws and regulations. Understanding of ethical standards established by professional counseling organizations. Ability to provide effective supervision and mentorship. Crisis intervention and risk assessment expertise. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
