Responsibilities The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) – Journey Traveler must be able to travel nationwide for 13‑week assignments. This position provides flexibility to travel the country and work in various settings. On assignment, the SLP organizes and provides speech‑language services for the location to facilitate rehabilitation and directs patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. The SLP also facilitates learning of skills and functions essential for communication and swallowing to diminish or remediate disorders or deficits and promotes a safe environment, consistent with the Code of Ethics of the profession. Supervise CFYs temporary licensees, students, and support personnel in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards as necessary. Deliver rehab services efficiently, adhering to the established plan of care, patient schedule, and timely documentation. Attend and contribute to patient care, staffing conferences and related meetings. Make referrals to other disciplines or agencies as needed. Consult with rehabilitation team members to select the most appropriate therapeutic regimen consistent with patient needs and capabilities. Adapt program/plan of care according to individual patient needs. Promote a safe environment and enforce elimination of fire and safety hazards. Order supplies and equipment as necessary; clean, maintain, identify and report needed repairs. Provide patient‑first service, ensuring residents and families receive highest quality and compassionate care. Screen, examine, evaluate patients, including history, systems review, and appropriate tests, synthesize information and interpret findings to establish diagnoses. Identify impairments, predict level of improvement, design treatment goals, and plan of care with patient and caregivers. Implement the speech‑language pathology treatment plan and complete related documentation and record‑keeping. Apply therapeutic techniques in areas such as cognitive‑communication, speech intelligibility, oral motor skills, swallowing disorders/dysphagia, perceptual abilities, orientation, memory, pragmatics, psychosocial expression, and functional communication. For those with specialized training in flexible/nasal endoscopy, perform Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) as required. Coordinate acquisition of adaptive communication devices and instruct patients in their use. Identify hearing deficits and refer for assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and/or amplification. Select appropriate activities suited to physical and mental capacity, intelligence level, and interest. Instruct patients in skills required for therapeutic activities, evaluate progress, attitudes and behavior related to rehabilitation potential. Perform routine reexamination as needed to modify or progress treatment plan. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Communicative Disorders, or a similarly titled area acceptable to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
