Assistant In Training (AIT) Located just steps from the PGA of America headquarters, Omni PGA Frisco Resort is a dynamic destination for golf lovers of all ages and skill levels. Home to two 18‑hole championship courses—Fields Ranch East, designed by Gil Hanse, and Fields Ranch West, designed by Beau Welling—the resort offers a variety of ways to play, including The Swing, a lighted 10‑hole, par‑3 short course, and The Dance Floor, a 2‑acre putting course and entertainment space. The AIT is a professional within the turfgrass industry who is seeking further development and mentoring in the Golf Course Management business. The goal of the AIT position is to develop advanced knowledge of the entire golf course maintenance operation while honing skills. The AIT is critical to the success of the operation as this individual will develop a diverse amount of skills and assist within the many different roles of the department. The AIT will be responsible for supervising subordinate staff and making critical decisions throughout the maintenance operation. Supervising subordinate staff on special projects, general maintenance and water management practices are common. The AIT must have excellent communication skills and be able to direct work as directed by the Assistant and/or Golf Course Superintendent. The AIT will work closely with key management in decision making as it relates to moisture management strategies and golf course playability. The AIT will be responsible for a tremendous amount of data collection as it relates to our management strategies and programming. This role will represent the PGA of America and Omni Hotel & Resorts in the utmost professional manner. Responsibilities Assist with and oversee the intense water management programs that are implemented each year to provide the highest quality playing surfaces throughout the golf course. Supervise, assist and educate subordinate staff on the proper techniques used in all maintenance applications throughout the golf course. Assist Superintendents and Assistants in ensuring specific training needs and standards. Understand all related job tasks within the department and perform all tasks as they relate to maintaining the golf course. Use mowing equipment, heavy machinery (tractors, skidsteer, excavator), application equipment, topdressers and rollers. Direct the work and supervise crews of 3‑5 individuals as it relates to special projects. Ensure proper execution of assigned projects. Assist Golf Course Superintendents and Assistants in the development of chemical and fertility plans. Have a good understanding of the use of chemistries and different types of fertilizers used within the industry. Set water management programs through the irrigation system when required, and have an understanding of the extensive operations system. Assist Application foremen and techs with any applications that may be needed. Render professional advice, opinions, assistance and services to the Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents and any other managing body as required. Observe the golf course daily as part of the intense maintenance programs and assist with adjusting and modifying programs. Assist with training of staff and staff safety. Ensure environmental compliance and maintenance facilities are monitored and maintained. Maintain pesticide license and pursue continual education in the field of concern or related. Ensure organization of the GCM facility, equipment and grounds. Carry out supervisory responsibilities of specific subordinate staff in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Provide employee training; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; address complaints; resolve problems. Qualifications Two‑year certificate from a college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Texas State License as pesticide applicator. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply calibration of pesticide and fertilizer. Physical work requirements: frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions. Noise level can be loud. Physical tasks: must stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear. Occasionally required to sit. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception.
