This professional staff technologist position will have an impact on quality, safety, and the patient experience. Education Required: Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography program that is accredited Preferred: Associates Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography Experience Preferred: At least two years of ultrasound with six months in an on‑site apprenticeship with a vascular laboratory Other Skills & Knowledge Required: Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors and fellow members of the hospital team Licenses, Registrations, Certifications Required: Active certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty(ies) as appropriate or registry eligible. If registry eligible, must obtain ARDMS (RVT) registration within 12 months of hire date. Reporting Relationships Reports to the Ultrasound/Vascular Supervisor Not responsible for supervising the work of others Job Functions Educates and informs patients and family members throughout the patient’s experience. Communicates effectively with the healthcare team utilizing established handoff procedures. Gives and accepts respectful feedback to enhance teamwork. Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography arterial and venous examinations. Uses sonographic skills to identify, record, and modify procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. Analyses sonograms, incorporates sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician coverage. Assists with the daily operation of the sonographic lab. Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area and maintains adequate supplies. Responds promptly to equipment issues to ensure optimum operations, equipment quality, and long‑term maintenance. Participates in the maintenance of vascular laboratory accreditation. Minimizes preventable harm events and consistently executes infection‑control protocols. Incorporates the Culture of Safety tools in daily practice, adhering to quality and safety guidelines and communicating near‑miss or potential risks. Educates and informs patients and family members throughout the patient’s experience. Physical and Mental Requirements/Conditions The employee needs the physical and mental abilities to perform the duties of the position listed above using the WE CARE behaviors. It is anticipated that the employee will have contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials while performing their job duties. Requires working in an area where film‑processing chemicals, developer, and fixer are being used. Strength sufficient to lift some patients, move heavy equipment on wheels, and move patients in wheelchairs and stretchers. Ability to maintain prolonged arm positions necessary for scanning. Pay Range $47.00 - $69.84 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
