Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Location 7611 Forest Avenue, Suite 100, Richmond, VA, 23229, United States Description The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing cardiac nuclear medicine procedures using radioactive materials in accordance with established departmental protocols and safety standards. The technologist ensures high-quality imaging, patient safety, and accurate documentation to support the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Prepare, calibrate, and administer radiopharmaceuticals for imaging procedures under physician supervision. Ensure safe handling, storage and disposal of radioactive materials in accordance with NRC and state regulations. Operate nuclear medicine equipment, including gamma cameras, PET/CT scanners, and related imaging software. Perform department surveys and quality control on equipment on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Maintain all records and logs to comply with regulations. Educate patients and families on procedures, preparation, and post-exam care. Start IV’s on patients using aseptic technique. Position patients appropriately to ensure optimal imaging and comfort while maintaining radiation safety protocols. Process and analyze images for technical quality prior to interpretation by a cardiologist. Document patient procedures, doses, and results accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain certification and competency. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other technologists to provide coordinated and high-quality patient care. Periodically travel to alternative office locations to help cover shifts on an as needed basis. Performs other assigned duties to ensure the goals of the department are met. Qualifications Knowledge of health care field and medical specialty. Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical specialty. Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families. Skill in performing tasks appropriately. Skill intact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions. Skill in understanding of patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families. Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures Ability to project a pleasant and professional image. Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks. Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others. Education and/or Experience Graduate of an AMA approved school of nuclear medicine technology. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field required. Minimum of [1–3] years of experience in a clinical nuclear medicine setting preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Current certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-N) required. State licensure (if applicable). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Summary Full Time, Monday through Friday from 7:00am-3:30pm, depending on the clinic location. No Nights!
