Salary: $65,000-$72,000/annually

FLSA: Exempt Type of Position: 12 month Faculty (Full-time)

1. Reporting Relationships

Position Reports to: Contingent upon the primary Learning Site Director, Center for Caring with Technology, Associate Dean, or Director, Nursing Services

Indirect Supervisory Responsibility: None

Position Backup: Center for Caring with Technology Staff

1. Position Summary

The individual in this position uses a caring science approach to create an environment where actions and strategies lead to developing and strengthening student relationships that create a path to grow as a professional nurse. Responsibilities encompass developing, facilitating, and evaluating clinical simulation and interprofessional collaborative education activities. Additionally, this position comprises teaching responsibilities in the CCT. As a member of the School of Nursing, she/he contributes to the successful achievement of course and program outcomes, and philosophy and mission of the School of Nursing and University.

1. Essential Functions

Teaching Related:

1. Facilitate effective student learning in the clinical/lab setting and the online learning

environment using evidence based strategies.

1. Guide students to recognize and evaluate social determinants of health, and individual and environmental cues.
2. Utilize the designated clinical judgment framework when applicable.
3. Provide guidance for students in the CCT setting related to professionalism, practice, clinical judgement, and evidence-based practice.

1. Ensure effective evaluations of student practice and skill validations.
2. Provide feedback about the teaching/learning process to Course Coordinators when designated.
3. Share responsibility for the planning and implementation of assigned courses, program­ planning activities, and other needs of the academic programs.
4. Participate in the development and progress of the academic programs by contributing to the development of curriculum, teaching materials, and evaluation measures.

1. Maintain up-to-date knowledge in regards to nursing curriculum, simulation scenarios, policies, and requirements.
2. Assist faculty and CCT staff to implement the curriculum using simulation as a pedagogy.
3. Use the School of Nursing designated debriefing(s) method to optimize the debriefing experience and maximize learning during simulation.
4. Provide support to standardized patients or other simulation participants.
5. Maintain clinical competence and knowledge pertaining to an area of expertise.
6. Monitor on-going daily operation of the CCT and maintain communication between staff and Director.

1. Demonstrate commitment to continued professional learning.
2. Maintain active membership in selected professional nursing organizations, as needed.
3. Perform similar, comparable or related duties as assigned or required.

1. Qualifications

• Current, unencumbered professional registered nurse license in Maryland
• A Master's Degree in Nursing is required. May have a plan for completion of Master of Science in Nursing Degree within three (3) years.
• Previous experience in the use of simulation as a pedagogy (preferred).
• Teaching competence-Evidence of a minimum two years of teaching experience (preferred).
• Clinical competence-Able to function with professional accountability in clinical settings.

• Commitment to Caring Science as a way of being in the School of Nursing.
• Knowledge of Standards of Best Practice: Simulation (INACSL).

• Knowledge of the use of high fidelity, midlevel fidelity, and low fidelity simulators and other technology based learning systems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff, students, and others.
  • Ability to work within established procedures, guidelines, and follow directions
  • Ability to handle several assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments.
  • Possess excellent communication (written and oral) and efficient organizational skills.

1. Position Hours and Pay

Typical work hours for this position are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
