Job Title Transportation Manager II Department Supply Chain Location Janesville, Wisconsin, United States Position Type Full time Job Summary Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the direct driver management and supervision of a midsize driver count, ensuring safe and timely service movement of freight, load assignment, and providing best‑in‑class customer service. The transportation manager must ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company rules while working with internal and external contacts to accurately plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight and loads. Flexible shift work—day, night, and weekend—is required to meet operational needs and coverage. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safety to minimize turnover and maximize productivity. Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and handle special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability. Train, orient, and mentor drivers, including assistance with internal and third‑party (customer) systems. Conduct analysis of fleet operations and profitability, make recommendations for continuous improvement, and measure key performance indicators. Create, maintain, and present customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis through face‑to‑face and/or virtual interactions at customer locations. Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and assignment of drivers to balance equipment in market. Perform administrative duties such as payroll, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing and documentation, resolving pay issues, invoicing, and creating operational or financial reports. Manage yard operations including checking/inspecting equipment, replacing parts, coordinating repairs, and scheduling preventive maintenance. Resolve service issues, routing/planning, mechanical problems, accessorial pay‑related issues, and other challenges with drivers, customers, and company personnel. Maintain a safety culture with daily driver safety messages, monthly briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforcement of DOT compliance and company safety requirements. Assign loads, plan, route, and monitor freight movement to ensure safe, on‑time service and meet customer requirements, including managing exceptions and driver ETA adjustments. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED and 2–3 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience. Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends. Strong professional communication skills applied internally and externally. Experience establishing and maintaining healthy working relationships. Experience fostering strong customer relationships through delivery of commitments, open communication, and ongoing feedback/improvement. Ability to process information with high accuracy. Ability to analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. Proficiency in Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to manage multiple competing priorities. Consistent travel to account and customer locations as needed. Adaptability to a dynamic work environment and shifting priorities. Experience holding people accountable and conducting difficult conversations. Ability to perform in a stressful and high‑pressure environment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field. 1–2 additional years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience.
