Performs intermediate semiskilled and skilled work in the repair, maintenance and care of recreation facilities, parks grounds and related structures and equipment; does related work as required. Performs intermediate semiskilled and skilled work in the repair, maintenance and care of recreation facilities, parks grounds and related structures and equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Recreation Operation Manager. Limited supervision is exercised over seasonal workers. Essential Functions/Typical Tasks Maintaining recreation facilities and parks grounds and related structures; operating equipment; mowing grass; preparing playing fields. (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.) Maintains recreation complex, athletic fields and satellite sites. Supervises seasonal workers, as needed. Operates power equipment such as mowers, tractor, front end loader, chain saw and pruning saw. Cleans restrooms; empties trash cans; makes minor plumbing repairs; replaces bulbs and fuses; paints walls. Performs landscaping duties such as; cutting grass, plants flowers, shrubs or trees; prunes, trims, mulches, fertilizes and sprays pesticides. Trims, lines and maintains ball fields. Orders equipment and supplies and maintains inventory. Maintains various records and reports relative to facilities and ground maintenance. Performs turf grass maintenance tasks such as seeding, soil testing, aerating and irrigation. Applies general use pesticides to various plant materials on park and recreation property. Maintaining all safety aspects related to all park & recreation facilities. Performs skilled carpentry and other trades work. Performs related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities General knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in grounds maintenance work; general knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of the standard building trades; general knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the class; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to use common hand tools; ability to operate machinery and equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Education And Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in grounds maintenance work. Physical Requirements This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils. Special Requirements Possession of a driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina. Obtain the Certified Playground Safety Inspector within 9 months of employment. Obtain Aquatic Facility Operations (AFO) within 9 months of employment. Obtain Pesticide Safety Training (PST) within 9 months of employment. CPR/First Aid certification and AED Course within 60 days of hire.
