Senior Specialist Manufacturing Automation Engineer

Merck seeks a Senior Specialist Manufacturing Automation Engineer for its West Point, PA facility to manage process automation systems in pharmaceutical formulation and filling operations. The role requires troubleshooting complex automation equipment, maintaining GMP compliance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within a regulated manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation and equipment issues to improve manufacturing performance
- Maintain automation systems in cGMP compliance throughout equipment lifecycle from qualification to retirement
- Serve as subject matter expert providing technical assistance and automation support to production teams
- Review automation documentation, preventive maintenance procedures, and SOPs for GMP and safety compliance
- Develop and support corrective actions for investigations related to automation and IT systems
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Minimum 5 years manufacturing automation experience in regulated industry
- Strong understanding of manufacturing principles and ability to translate requirements into automation solutions
- Demonstrated proficiency with process control systems (DeltaV DCS, Allen Bradley PLC, OPC, Siemens Step7)
- Project management experience and system validation/quality management expertise
- Technical writing and strong verbal/written communication skills
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
Compensation: $117,000-$184,200 base
