Phlebotomist

The main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture or specimen collection process in a clear and courteous manner.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Understand and execute all physicians' orders accurately.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Verify test requisitions against scripts for accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

Essential Skills

• Phlebotomy experience of 1-2 years.
• Proficiency in blood draw and specimen collection.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting.
• High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.
• Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience working with all age groups is preferred.

Work Environment

Work in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Use of Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and communication.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Matthews, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
