Peer Support Specialist (CORE Guide)

About the Role firsthand supports individuals living with serious mental illness (SMI) and seeks a Core Guide (fG) to serve as a Peer Recovery Specialist. The Core Guide will engage with people in the community, healthcare settings, and other environments to connect them to care and support. Responsibilities Conduct community outreach to individuals with SMI in homes, shelters, hospitals, and emergency departments. Schedule appointments, take vitals, ensure clinical visit attendance, and assist with telehealth access. Build trust and relationships, addressing immediate needs and empowering personal recovery goals. Serve as primary point‑of‑contact, using advanced engagement techniques to facilitate ongoing connection in supportive services. Address social determinants of health, facilitate access to benefits, resources, and transportation. Assist with care coordination, advocate for individual goals, accompany individuals to appointments, and address post‑discharge needs. Provide timely documentation of encounters and participate in case reviews and team collaboration. Perform initial and ongoing telephonic outreach. Participate in ongoing training and professional development. Adapt to evolving role as the organization grows. Qualifications Empathy, compassion, and approachability. Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills. Personal knowledge of recovery. Patience, persistence and desire to help individuals with SMI and/or SUD. Comfort working in multidisciplinary teams. Basic proficiency with smartphones and computers. Openness to feedback and commitment to professional growth. Required Experience Lived experience with SMI and/or SUD. State Peer Recovery certification, or eligibility to obtain within six months. Valid driver's license in good standing and ability to drive; company vehicle may be provided. Proficiency with technical tools such as email, messaging, and apps. Two years of demonstrated recovery time from a mental health and/or substance abuse disorder at the date of application. Completion of paid training period and assessment of competence. Bonus Points Direct in‑person outreach and engagement experience with individuals with SMI and SUD. Experience in recovery education and coaching. Understanding of whole health and trauma‑informed peer support. Familiarity with local community resources, behavioral health systems, and criminal justice system. Eagerness to expand knowledge of health conditions. Interest in or credential as a Community Health Worker (CHW). Hourly Pay Rate

$20–$20 USD
