Job Objectives :

An Employment Services Specialist serves program participants and individual job seekers from varied levels of education, experience, and competence. A successful Employment Services Specialist can effectively manage participant cases and assist customers with developing education and employment plans, monitoring progress, gaining job-related and soft skills, reaching career goals, connecting with employment opportunities, and preparing to enter or re-enter the workforce. This position assists customers with navigating available resources to reduce or eliminate barriers to employment success. The position requires the ability to interpret, apply, and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local workforce development policies, procedures, regulations, and program requirements while delivering quality customer-focused services.

Essential Functions

• A service-minded attitude with outstanding customer service skills.
• Work effectively with and communicate professionally with clients and customers from widely varied levels of education and competence.
• Apply critical thinking and analytical skills, define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make sound decisions.
• Type and effectively operate/navigate multiple computer programs simultaneously.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint).
• Organize and maintain information and paperwork, work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced work environment.
• Prioritize and re-prioritize work assignments.
• Proficient in grammar, punctuation, spelling, writing, and basic mathematics.
• Effectively plan independently and in collaboration with other agency units and outside agencies.
• Aptitude to learn and apply federal, state, county, and agency policies and procedures.
• Work harmoniously with others and collaboratively with a team.

*Employees of OhioMeansJobs Knox County must have a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Job Standards

• Associate degree in social services, human resources, or related field with customer service experience. Experience serving individuals with employment and/or life barriers is a plus.
• Alternatively, a high school diploma or equivalent and a combination of three years of customer service experience and/or professional development or post-secondary coursework in a related field. Experience serving individuals with employment and/or life barriers is a plus.
