High School School/Guidance Counselor Starting Date: Aug 19, 2026 Job ID: 5784866 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Job Type: Full-time Salary: $62,832 to $109,348 Per Year Job Goal To provide individual and group student planning through proactive measures that reduce barriers to learning and responsive services to address students’ immediate needs, meeting academic, career, and personal/social goals at developmentally appropriate levels. Responsibilities District‑Wide Promote and communicate the district’s Mission, Vision, Goals, and Values to students, parents, and the community. Uphold district policies and applicable laws and regulations. Ensure the safety, security, and welfare of students and coworkers. Maintain current knowledge of the school safety plan. Show respect for all individuals and do not discriminate on protected characteristics. Maintain good attendance and punctuality; notify supervisor of illness or personal requests promptly. Maintain confidentiality regarding personal and work-related information for all students and staff. Department – Specific Job Responsibilities General Counsel students on educational, vocational, and personal issues. Meet each student at least twice per year. Monitor progress and communicate with parents/guardians as needed. Register new students and orient them to policies, practices, and opportunities. Respect privacy and confidentiality per MGL and mandated reporting laws. Educate teachers, staff, parents, and the community on services available. Participate in department meetings. Attend and participate in IEP and 504 meetings, writing and overseeing accommodation plans. Collaborate with district staff, DCF, and other stakeholders with proper releases. Liaise with previous counselors to ensure continuity of services. Facilitate and attend evening programs for parents. Collect and report statistical data as requested. Perform additional duties as assigned. Academic Maintain knowledge of the NMRHS Program of Studies. Advise students and parents on graduation requirements and course selection. Ensure compliance with scheduling timelines. Develop and deliver group guidance activities per the curriculum. Monitor student records per regulations. Interpret test scores to aid planning. Maintain knowledge of college application and financial aid processes. Prepare and assist with grade‑appropriate presentations (college, financial aid, etc.). Assist students and parents through the college search and application process. Provide financial aid information. Career Provide career information on occupational outlook, training, and employability. Assist students in exploring interests and aptitudes using inventory results. Provide resources for alternative educational programs. Help students familiarize themselves with career resources. Guide students in employment preparation and realistic goal setting. Help students relate educational experiences to the workforce. Develop and deliver group guidance activities. Personal/Social Assists students with conflict resolution and models problem‑solving skills. Mediates interpersonal conflicts and promotes self‑reliance. Provides referrals to outside agencies when appropriate. Supports student individuality. Develop and deliver group guidance activities. Encourage good decision‑making skills. Monitor attendance and discipline; assist principal in addressing inappropriate behavior. Respond promptly to personal issues that may impede achievement. Qualifications Massachusetts School/Guidance Counselor Certification from DESE. Master’s Degree in School Counseling. Experience working with youth in an educational setting. Basic computer skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required. Master’s degree preferred. Job Details Location: North Middlesex Regional High School – Townsend, Massachusetts Terms of Employment: Salary will be established by the Superintendent based on the current salary schedule. Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated per the School Committee’s personnel evaluation policy.
