Medical Technologist I

Job Overview Medical Technologist I location: Kansas City, Integrated Toxicology team (ITox). Responsible for core functions within Clinical Pathology including scheduling, sample processing, data production, QC and analysis. May lead process improvement initiatives, cross‑functional training and support global initiatives. Pay Rate: $25.50 USD/hour Job Description Perform, document, review and verify all procedures, materials and results in compliance with regulatory standards (protocols, SOPs, etc.). Embody the behaviors and performance characteristics described in the CRL DNA. Develop proficiency in laboratory skills such as labeling, sample processing, sample QC and setup functions. Acquire proficiency and basic troubleshooting abilities for the instrumentation used. Perform laboratory maintenance functions (e.g., cleaning centrifuges, counters) with minimal oversight. Familiarize with business continuity procedures for system downtime. Demonstrate effective communication skills with peers, supervisors and team. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education: High‑school diploma or GED plus an Associate of Science degree (required). Bachelor's degree in biological science preferred. Experience: No prior work experience required with certification (MLT, MT, or MLS) or 1 year of relevant experience if no certification and only HS/GED and AS degree. Certification: Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist (preferred). Additional Qualifications Competency in departmental technical skills. Strong verbal and written communication at all levels. Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite. Computer skills commensurate with essential functions, ability to learn validated systems. Ensure regulatory compliance (GLP, SOP, BOP, IACUC). Willingness to work extended hours beyond normal schedule, including evenings and weekends. Ability to work under specific time constraints. Workplace Requirements Perform general office/laboratory procedures requiring standing, typing, operating instruments, reaching, wearing PPE. Wear protective clothing: goggles, face shield, surgical mask, cap, gloves, scrubs; handle toxic/caustic chemicals, biohazards, live animals with exposure risk. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, unpleasant odors, extreme temperature conditions. Vision requirements: close vision, color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
