Target Compensation: Up to $125,000/year, plus $10,000+ bonus potential

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Superintendent to lead maintenance operations at a large, fast-paced food manufacturing facility in Cudahy, WI. This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing a team of 3 Maintenance Supervisors and approximately 15 technicians.

The Maintenance Superintendent will be responsible for driving equipment reliability, preventive and predictive maintenance, continuous improvement, and safety across the plant. The ideal candidate has strong maintenance leadership experience in a food manufacturing environment and is comfortable spending time on the production floor working directly with the maintenance and operations teams.

The facility is a 175,000-square-foot plant with five production lines, including four meat slicing lines, along with packaging equipment, smokers/ovens, dry rooms, conveyors, and sterilizers. The plant produces more than 10 million pounds of bacon annually, in addition to ham, dried sausages, and pepperoni.

Must Have Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
• Experience leading supervisors, technicians, or other maintenance personnel
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting knowledge
• Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
• Hands-on leadership style with willingness to work directly on the production floor
• Strong communication, organization, and team-building skills
• Experience with Microsoft Office and SAP
• Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed

Job Duties:

• Lead and manage the plant maintenance function, including 3 direct Supervisors and approximately 15 indirect technicians
• Plan, organize, and delegate maintenance activities to support reliable and efficient plant operations
• Drive preventive and predictive maintenance programs in partnership with the Plant Engineer
• Utilize SAP PM to manage maintenance activities, work orders, and equipment reliability
• Implement and improve maintenance systems including Root Cause Analysis, Reliability-Centered Maintenance, TPM, and other continuous improvement initiatives
• Monitor maintenance KPIs including equipment reliability, downtime, supplier performance, and overall equipment effectiveness
• Troubleshoot equipment and operational issues and provide effective solutions to minimize downtime
• Identify recurring equipment problems and implement corrective actions to prevent future failures
• Coach, develop, and mentor maintenance personnel and supervisors
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations
• Partner with production and other plant departments to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize disruption
• Lead resource planning and ensure maintenance staffing and activities align with plant needs
• Step in and provide leadership and support when key personnel are unavailable
• Maintain a visible, hands-on presence on the production floor and work closely with maintenance and operations teams

Qualifications:

• Food manufacturing experience is strongly preferred; meat processing experience is a plus but not required
• Advanced technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including PLCs, instrumentation, and industrial equipment
• Strong understanding of world-class maintenance management practices, including preventive/predictive maintenance and TPM
• Experience managing maintenance processes, projects, or teams
• Experience training, coaching, and developing less experienced employees
• Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills
• Ability to build positive working relationships across maintenance, production, and other plant functions
• Ability to remain effective in a fast-paced, dynamic manufacturing environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to be hands-on and actively involved in day-to-day plant operations

Work Environment:

• Fast-paced food manufacturing environment
• Frequent exposure to production equipment, moving mechanical parts, noise, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals
• Plant conditions may include wet/humid areas and extreme hot or cold temperatures
• Regular standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, and crouching
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Weekend and extended-hour work may be required based on plant operations
