Critical Care Nocturnist, Self Regional Healthcare, Greenwood SC
Nocturnist Intensivist:
- Open to qualified applicants with FM/IM Critical Care focus, Pulmonary Critical Care, Anesthesia Critical Care, or Emergency Medicine Critical Care
- This position involves nighttime oversight of patients in a 20-bed Medical ICU and 10 bed Cardiac ICU. Our open ICU model allows admission to the ICU and CCU by our hospitalist, family medicine residency, and surgical staff (e.g. CT Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Cardiology, etc.)
- This position also involves admitting some patients to the Medical-Telemetry and PCU.
- Our Family Medicine Residency Program functions as the Rapid Response and Code Team for all floors at night.
A Typical Night Shift:
7P to 7A. This position concentrates on the night-time admissions and ongoing care of a 30 bed CICU/ICU, but also alternates admissions to the medical floors with the medical nocturnist. A 3rd physician staffs a swing shift from 7 PM - 11 PM on the evenings of Monday to Thursday(our busiest days of the week) to help with admissions and cover phone calls during the busiest part of the night. We average 4-6 admissions per nocturnist each night.

Self Regional Healthcare is a 358-bed county-owned non-profit 501 (c) (3) regional community hospital serving a 7-county area in the upstate Lakelands region of South Carolina. We have 30 critical care beds in our ICU/CICU and a 32-bed step down unit. Our catchment area is an ever-expanding population of 250,000 to 300,000 just 1 hour south of the Greenville metropolitan area. Abbeville Area Medical Center and Edgefield County Healthcare have close affiliations with Self Regional Healthcare as well.
Procedures Required:
ACLS certification, Central lines, Arterial Lines, Intubation, Mechanical Ventilator Management, bronchoscopy skills encouraged.

This location is hours from the Atlantic Coast beaches, one hour from the Blue Ridge Mountains, and 2-3 hours from both Charlotte and Atlanta metropolitan areas. Local lakes including Lake Greenwood, Lake Russell, Lake Secession, Lake Thurmond are great locations nearby. Our downtown area is growing into an inviting dinner and entertainment destination. Our community theater is alive and well with variety of shows. Outdoor recreation is abundant with several competitive golf courses and the 10,000-acre Sumter National Forest. If you enjoy teaching, then opportunities abound to precept medical students from Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine and PA students from Presbyterian College. Self Regional Healthcare sustains one of the nation's top family medicine residency programs in the country, and many of our hospitalists trained here. As an unopposed well-established Family Medicine Residency program with 32 residents including Sports Medicine, the program competes for national honors in USMLE board scores and rankings. Furthermore, Self Regional Healthcare hosts a robust pharmacy residency program graduating 4 pharmacists per year.
