In close collaboration with engineers, analysts, and cross-functional teams, this role prepares and executes 3D scans, manages scanning projects from request to reporting, and helps develop new measurement techniques and fixtures to improve product quality and manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
- Perform 3D scans of parts and assemblies as requested, ensuring accurate and timely completion of all scanning tasks.
- Prepare parts for scanning, including applying targets and spray coatings as needed to achieve optimal scan quality.
- Coordinate scanning projects within the scan lab, including organizing and managing the CAD data required for dimensional analysis.
- Identify and define the scans needed for each project, ensuring that all critical features and dimensions are captured.
- Schedule scanning activities to balance multiple requests and maximize lab throughput while meeting project deadlines.
- Report scanning results clearly and accurately to engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders to support dimensional and quality analysis.
- Regularly calibrate lab scanners to maintain measurement accuracy and reliability.
- Support the development and refinement of new measurement techniques, fixtures, and processes to improve scanning efficiency and data quality.
- Collaborate with Quality, Advanced Manufacturing, Production, and Engineering teams to scan defective parts and support root cause analysis.
- Assist in establishing and refining quality standards and testing procedures using scan data and dimensional insights.
- Diagnose and communicate scanning machine faults and issues to service technicians and maintenance personnel to minimize downtime.
- Work closely with manufacturing groups such as Stamping, Plastics, and Assembly to ensure scanning activities align with production and quality needs.
- Manage multiple scanning projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and resources to maximize output and meet internal customer expectations.
- Experience with CAD systems and manipulation of 3D CAD data.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously to maximize output.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to learn and operate multiple software programs concurrently.
- Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work as a self-starter with minimal supervision.
- Ability to diagnose and clearly communicate scanning machine faults to service technicians and maintenance personnel.
- Knowledge of quality control, dimensional control, and product quality principles.
- Experience with metrology practices and precision measuring techniques.
- Familiarity with CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) operations and programming.
- Experience working with scanning equipment such as 3D scanners and related tools.
- 3D scanning experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or quality environment.
- Metrology experience, including gage design, CMM programming, and Six Sigma data analysis.
- Experience with CREO and Windchill software for 3D modeling and product data management.
- College degree desired, with a technical field preferred.
- Experience using Faro Arm or similar portable CMM equipment.
- Ability to support development of new measurement techniques and custom fixtures.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with Quality, Advanced Manufacturing, Production, and Engineering teams.
You will join a forward-thinking organization that values innovation, precision, and continuous improvement. The role offers the opportunity to work with modern 3D scanning and metrology technologies while collaborating with diverse departments across the product lifecycle. You will enhance your technical skills, contribute directly to improving product quality and manufacturing processes, and take part in meaningful projects in small appliance development within a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Work Environment
You will work primarily in an office and quality lab setting within a central 3D scan lab that supports multiple production facilities. The role operates Monday through Friday on a daytime schedule. You will collaborate closely with manufacturing groups such as Stamping, Plastics, and Assembly, as well as with Quality, Advanced Manufacturing, Production, and Engineering teams. The environment is technology-driven, with access to 3D scanners, metrology equipment, CAD and data management systems such as CREO and Windchill, and other precision measurement tools.
