Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Middle Tennessee State University is seeking a licensed mental health professional to join our team as a Counselor in Counseling Services. Reporting to the Associate Director, the Counselor role provides individual short-term counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and outreach to support the mental health and well-being of a diverse student population. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ personal growth and academic success within a collaborative, multidisciplinary university environment. This is a full-time, 10-month salaried position with benefits. The work schedule is 37.5 hours per week from August through May, with June and July off each year. Salary is paid in 12 equal monthly installments. Qualifications Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough mental health intake assessments and determine the appropriate level of care. Experience providing individual counseling using a short-term, goal-oriented model of care. Proficiency in crisis intervention, including risk assessment and coordination with community emergency service providers. Experience with referral and case management for clients whose specialized or long-term needs require community-based care, with attention to continuity of care. Skill in developing and delivering psychoeducational outreach and presentations to students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities, supporting equity and inclusion. Collaborative approach to working within a multidisciplinary team. Strong communication and organizational skills, with proficiency in electronic health records and the ability to complete progress notes and clinical documentation accurately and on time. Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family counseling. Has applied for Tennessee licensure as an LPC-MHSP, LCSW, LMFT, LSPE-HSP, or PhD/PsyD HSP, with the ability to be fully licensed within two years (candidates licensed in another state must obtain Tennessee licensure within one year). Experience in college or university counseling centers, or comparable settings, is preferred.
