Data Architect

Location: Issaquah, WA – Onsite Compensation: The annual base salary range for this role is $155,000 – $200,000. Additional Compensation: This role may also be eligible for discretionary bonus or other incentive compensation, as well as RSU/stock awards commensurate with experience. Overview This is a senior-level data architecture role embedded within a large, complex technology organization undergoing significant modernization. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert across core business data domains, including inventory, supply chain, and buying, and will own the end-to-end data architecture strategy for a multi-phase ERP re-platform initiative. The role demands both high-level enterprise thinking and hands-on technical execution, from conceptual data modeling through physical implementation and performance tuning. Summary You'll work at the intersection of legacy systems and modern cloud infrastructure, designing the data architecture that bridges the two. This means building data pipelines, defining certified datasets, leading data governance and quality initiatives, and collaborating closely with data engineering, platform, and product teams to bring a coherent data landscape to life. The scope spans multiple business functions and phases, making this a rare opportunity to shape foundational data infrastructure at enterprise scale. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and development of holistic data architecture in support of a large-scale ERP/MRP replatform, covering domains such as warehouse, buying, supply chain, and manufacturing. Define and maintain conceptual and logical data models, partnering with data platform teams to translate these into physical implementations. Design and build data integration pipelines and establish source-to-target mapping documentation and data flow diagrams. Define certified datasets for reporting, data science, and API consumption, and develop architectural standards for data quality, security, and compliance. Develop and execute data migration strategies, including validation, cleanup, and mapping across legacy and modern platforms. Evaluate existing data architectures for performance improvements and partner with data engineering teams on ongoing optimization. Support data stewards in capturing and documenting business metadata, definitions, and data dictionaries. Provide cross-platform oversight and governance across a complex, iteratively developed data landscape. Collaborate with enterprise and solution architects on integration, storage, replication, and transformation protocols. Stay current on industry trends in data architecture, tooling, and methodology; contribute ideas for new data products. Support off-hours work as required, including on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis. Qualifications 10+ years of experience in data architecture design, implementation, and maintenance of complex datasets. 5+ years of experience implementing packaged or custom ERP/MRP solutions in the retail industry, with a focus on data architecture and migration. Demonstrated experience leading architectural decisions that align and integrate multiple disparate data teams. Experience designing and delivering data engineering and integration pipelines (ETL/ELT). Proficiency in SQL and multi-platform database commands, including performance tuning and optimization. Experience with data modeling tools (Erwin preferred). Strong knowledge of relational and dimensional modeling structures. Experience with legacy-to-cloud migration, including platforms such as IBMi, DB2, or AS400, and modern cloud environments such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or BigQuery. Familiarity with Change Data Capture (CDC), event-driven architecture, and API design. Knowledge of data governance, Master Data Management (MDM), and disciplined software development lifecycle (SDLC/Agile) practices. Experience overseeing and mentoring less experienced data modelers. Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to engage effectively with both technical and business audiences at all levels. Ability to work independently with limited supervision, manage competing priorities, and perform well under pressure. Nice to Have CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) certification. Experience with information privacy, data compliance, and risk management. Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Operational Data Hub (ODH) design patterns, or "Data as a Product" frameworks. Experience with GCP-native services such as Pub/Sub and Dataflow. Knowledge of FinOps practices in a cloud data environment. Proficiency with Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Gmail).
