This Chemist role focuses on general wet chemistry testing and quality control in a modern, temperature-controlled laboratory within a chemical manufacturing environment. You will perform a wide range of routine and specialized tests on raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods, with a strong emphasis on clear coat and spray paint applications. The position combines hands-on laboratory work with detailed documentation and offers comprehensive training on key analytical instruments, including automatic pipetting systems, gas chromatography, and infrared spectroscopy. Responsibilities

• Perform general wet chemistry laboratory testing such as pipetting, viscosity measurements, pH determination, boiling point analysis, titrations, and related techniques.
• Conduct routine testing and approval of chemicals and blends, ensuring all materials meet established specifications.
• Carry out incoming, intermediate, and final inspection of raw materials, in-process intermediates, and finished goods.
• Work extensively with clear coats and spray paints, following all safety procedures and using provided personal protective equipment.
• Operate and learn to use laboratory instrumentation, including automatic pipetting machines, gas chromatographs, and IR spectrometers.
• Document test results accurately, including status updates and chemical non-conformances, in both paper and electronic systems.
• Maintain quality records and verify raw materials, in-process materials, and finished goods against established specifications.
• Generate certificates of analysis and perform USP testing, documentation, and routine monograph testing when applicable.
• Inspect USP containers and tankers when required, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
• Gauge, sample, and document incoming ethanol shipments when applicable.
• Support additional quality-related tasks as needed to provide backup coverage or manage peak workloads.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and update documentation as required after training.
• Manage individual workload by planning and prioritizing testing and documentation tasks, which may vary by shift between primarily testing, primarily documentation, or a mix of both.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with other team members and supervisors to coordinate work and share information.
• Participate in onboarding activities, including reviewing and signing off on SOPs and integrating into the laboratory team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Chicago, IL.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in North Chicago,IL.
